We all know its a convoluted formula but we already have a basic idea of who is in each race at least as far as the top 35 goes. That is except for positions 1-2.
As of now 150 race 1:
Jimmie Johnson
Greg Biffle
Casey Mears
Jeff Gordon
Joey Logano
Matt Kenseth
David Ragan
Kasey Kahne
Jamie McMurray
Kurt Busch
Mark Martin
Bobby Labonte (getting Kvapils points)
Juan Montoya
Below this it gets a bit difficult for me to say as the next odd car is the DEI #15 which is gone. I am going to ASSUME that NASCAR will bump up everyone in points so by guessing the rest of race 1 should include:
Paul Menard (getting Gilliland's points and very weird because the 15 car is what is throwing this all off and Menard was in that car last year)
Ryan Newman (getting the 66 points)
Robby Gordon
Marcos Ambrose (getting in automatically now that he has moved up into the top 35 due to the defunct teams)
Sam Hornish (same as Ambrose)
Twin 150 Race 2
Carl Edwards
Kevin Harvick
Jeff Burton
Denny Hamlin
Kyle Busch
Dale Jr
Aric Armirola
Martin Truex
David Stremme
Brian Vickers
Reed Sorenson (in the 43 with the 43 points)
Elliott Sadler
David Reutimann
And below here again is where I'm taking my best guess but I think it should be accurate unless NASCAR approves some points buying which I think we would have heard of by now.
Michael Waltrip
Ganassi/Earnhardt 41 driver
Scott Speed
AJ Allmendinger (the old 10 car moves up with the teams dropping out with AJ in the 44 car)
Then the guys outside of the top 35 in points trying to get in will be split up by how they qualify for the 500. The highest non top 35 guy in Daytona 500 qualifying will be plugged into race one, the second into race two, and so on down the line. And again any of those top 35 guys in points above could shift races if they are on the front row. Say a guy from race two like Kyle Busch, Edwards, Dale Jr, etc wins the pole then they would be in race one instead. Ditto if a guy supposed to be in race one gets the outside pole - he would be in race two.
I know its enough to make your head spin and vomit pea soup but it is the way it is. We have a good idea right now who is in each qualifying race before they ever touch the track in a couple of weeks....
