Twitter saying Kiffin to Arkansas?

What happened to the thread that said Leach to Ole Miss was a done deal?

Have I been bamboozled? Told the wife and everything......dang.

I’m glad we can sit back and enjoy watching other fanbases go through coaching searches this year. The rumors, “insiders”, plane tracking, etc is hilarious to watch.

I’ve been there many times. It is beautiful and a lot of good jobs are available there (mostly tied to Walmart) but there’s almost no college football prospects. Kiffin better think twice, but then he’s Lane Kiffin and he doesn’t.

There isn't much in-state talent but still, Arkansas' class last year was only three spots lower than where Tennessee currently is for 2020. It was one spot ahead of Mississippi State and one spot behind Ole Miss. Way ahead of Kentucky, Missouri and Vanderbilt.

It's not like it's impossible to recruit to Arkansas. You do have 4 teams in the division recruiting at a top 10 level though. But by the end of next year two of those will probably want their coach fired too.

Arkansas since the time of Frank Broyles has to recruit Texas heavily to be successful. Of course in state Little Rock produces a few players, Pine Bluff has talent year over year, Fayetteville will have a few, but most of their players have to come from Texas.

If true, he’ll toe the NCAA lines and even cross those lines more often than we’ll ever know. His staying power at a job is crap. Much better as a coordinator than a head coach. He’s got some pizzazz and moxie which will move the needle in Arkansas, and I can see him having some notable wins and good seasons, but his tenure there will end like his tenure everywhere else.

This was posted on Hogville. I think Hogville is trash and not sure if it's true or not but here it is (most think the heavy hitters against Kiffin are Jerry Jones and John Tyson):

I'm posting this on behalf of someone I spoke to this morning who is fully aware that I will be posting it. He has read what Porkatarian posted this morning, but also wrote what Lanny posted a day or two ago and doesn't want his home or work IP address associated with this.

Here's the cliff notes version:

Pork is right about three things. First, Kiffin is it. Second, Butch Davis is number 2 and has heavy hitters backing him. Third, Lane and his camp do now have their ears perked up about FSU.

That said, very important details are missing, and he thinks it is intentional that they were left off, as he believes that Pork is connected and would 100% be aware of this. Lane said "I do." Hunter said "I do." A very small but powerful and vocal faction said "We don't" and demanded that HY continue his "due diligence." LK was no longer considering FSU and was sold on Arkansas until this interference. IT WAS A DONE DEAL (his emphasis). Him now waiting to gauge potential interest from FSU is a tit for tat for the athletic department continuing their "due diligence" after he had already said yes to HY.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but there is absolutely a faction stomping their feet trying to get their way and potentially sabotaging the process.

If we do end up with Kiffin, it will be a testament to HY and his big brass balls. If not, it's because there has been zero shift in the power behind Arkansas sports and the same people are still pulling the strings like they were when we ended up with Morris.

Well, if there is someone you want helping to pick a winning coach, it is Jerry Jones.
(There is not a font with a deep enough color of blue to convey the sarcasm contained in this post)

Yep he was one of the big reasons we ended up with Morris. One of those guys where you can't tell him no because you want his money but don't like having him a part of it either.

They have every right to be skeptical of him especially if they are the ones paying for buyouts. The more likely scenario is they want to be considered “insiders” and ran to the board with supposed facts and are trying to hedge their bets by blaming mysterious powers behind the scenes for the “deal” falling through similar to Gruden here. I have no doubt Kiffin may be interested in the job but I also have no doubt he wants learn about other options. He can be a great coach but he loves the attention

This is the 11th hour bs rumor starters always use right before they get exposed. Kiffin never had interest in Arkansas and likely is willing to wait it out in beautiful, sunny Florida for a more high profile job. Your next football coach is at Tulane and that's a damn good hire.

Hard to believe Kiffin is ever or ever will be a legit head coaching candidate anywhere after how he left Tennessee. It was a bad look. Of course he leaks a bunch of BS to get his name mentioned but I don't think he's ever been a serious consideration of anywhere big time the past few years. The joke is basically on him.

Really? It he wants to get back on the big stage I'm sure he'll have that opportunity. Leaving a cushy job in FLA to move to Arkansas and fight to win a division in the SEC West doesn't seem like a good decision. Unless the hogettes throw crazy money at him.

I run a business. No way I'd hire a flake like Kiffin. It's just my opinion. I'm only in my mid 40's but I can't imagine people older and wiser than me look at it much differently. The younger folks? I dunno what they believe.

Hard to call Kiffin a flake nowadays. Maybe when he was fired from USC, for sure.

But if I had to bet anything, I'd bet Kiffin stays put in Boca for another year or two. Guy has it made there. He's had tons of buyout money his way so he isn't hurting for money. I don't think he has the cockiness about him like he did when he got the job here. Good to see that he has mellowed out.

Guy could easily be another Chris Petersen / Boise State type of coach where he just stays there for a long time and racks up 9/10 win seasons.

Heard Andy Staples on 104.5. Nashville say Kiffy was a real possibility at Arky. Its just a bigger rebuild than FAU. Arky has to deal with toughest division in CFB. Their problem is they have overblown expectations coupled with enough money to buyout a couch every 2-3 years when the coach doesn't meet them. Its going to probably take 5 years to get to 8-9 wins.

I gotta say, that one post that mentioned Muffin with Briles as OC (tho likely trolling) sent a shiver down my spine. No immediate threat maybe but 3 years out that would be a truly scary offense

Mizzou's roster is head and shoulders above any opening right now. The only negative for Mizzou is they have no money...Anyone that follows football in this league knows that Arkansas is hands down the worst job in the current state for the forseeable future. Mizzou has the best roster of current openings but has horrible finances and can't really commit to new facilities and stuff that new coaches want.
The ironic thing is that Mizzou actually does have money, and it's Walton money just like Arkansas has. Whether or not they get it is another question.

Yes every school has that one donor that could end any financial issues, but based on previous years, its not likely to happen.

Unless that donor gets in and demands a hire in exchange for his full funding, Mizzou's financial state is not great to buyout Odom, buyout the new coach and staff, and then pay that new coach and staff.

What exactly are Arkansas's expectations? I don't think any of their fans are calling for SEC West titles. I think they want to win 7, 8 games and go to a decent bowl game, kind of like the season Tennessee had this year. Unlike Tennessee, I think they seem to be OK with that being their peak. The Petrino years were an aberration - Arkansas' last period of great success was in the early 60s under Frank Broyles. I don't think they are ever going to be a dominant SEC program, but I think they're OK with that.
