Two-Deep Talent Comparison: Florida vs. Tennessee

Just for s*hit and giggles.

Does it answer the question of "what talent?" I guess its all in how you perceive rankings and how they translate to the field.

I would have to agree that they are deeper and slightly more talented in areas. Coaching them to their potential is a different story altogether.

I remember us making talent comparison threads before playing Oregon last year...

The first thing that stuck out to me is the rating of our TE's, which is the lowest average. To me, having Wolf at TE is one of the strongest parts of the team. Just weird seeing that as a supposed weak area.

This is what you do when you know things are not looking good for you. You can only polish a turd so much though.

I get the stars comparison but does anyone really think Florida has a better QB and receiving corp? Just on the eye ball test I would give Florida both lines of scrimmage. I think LBs and DBs are a push. I like our QB and receivers a lot more. I think Hurds better than any RB on their roster. The game will come down to the same things it as the last two outings, turnovers. The Vols got to get that maximum about protecting our ball, QBs,and kickers right and a big fat W is waiting. If the keep serving up gift wrapped defensive TDs they get the L.

The biggest talent differentials are in QB, TE and CB. Based upon this season's performance I wouldn't trade with the Gators at those positions under any circumstances.

I saw that too. There were a few other total mismatches as well just going by stars. Wonder what an adjusted talent matchup that includes adjusting for players performance would look like.

Another thing I noticed is that it looks like they have one receiver who does the bulk of their damage, which is bad news with Mr. Sutton on the field.

Alec Ellis was a "0" star so it brought the average down. Obviously Wolf is a stud.

And yet, KY took them to 3 overtimes at home and should have won.

on espn Vereen was a 4 star. They left off Pearson. Coleman was a 4 star on Rivals. I know they were just using 247 but still.

UT has top notch coaching. UT has a team playing with an edge. UF has 2 star coaching.

The comparison of talent is relative to star ratings in HS. If we take into consideration what these 4 and 5 star HS athletes have done in college FB I would say there would be some changes...basically Sutton and Randolph would be rated at least 4 star. AJ may be a 5*. On offense Wolf and Helm should be 4*, Hurd a 5* and Worley a 4*. Jacob Carter is at least a 3*. Pearson and Smith were not even considered as they were not part of the 2 deep...however Pearson would be a 5* and Smith a 4*.

So, basically the two teams are about even and it will come down to who makes the fewer mistakes. This is probably Tennessee's biggest game of the year for a win could catapult the Vols into a New Year's day game.

Those plots with the y-axis starting at 2.0 sort of skews the visual representation of the talent gap.

If you have the axis start at 0, talent gap looks a lot closer.

That is if you even consider this a valid study of how our teams compare to one another.
