Robbie Stanley 1967-1994 Died while driving a sprintcar on asphalt in Indiana. The car sat down and a radious rod went through him after hitting the wall. His father built all of my Quarter midgets. When Robbie would run World of Outlaws in Jacksonville we would go up and pit with him. It is more fun to watch a race standing on a race trailor than in the stands.:thumbsup:Before Robbie died he offered to sell my father and I a sprintcar but my dad did not want me running Sprints at 16.

Tony Renna 1976-2003 Died while testing a Indycar for Chip Ganassi before the Indy 500. I knew him very well and had raced with Tony 8 years in quarter midgets. I also ran Micro sprints with him after QM.

I remember Robbie Stanley for sure, he was a very good driver. He won several USAC Sprint titles. I believe he was killed at Winchester. I remember Tony Renna being killed at Indy, but I didn't know anything about him. Thanks for sharing, I can tell they were special to you.

Thanks your right he won lots of USAC races. You have to be from the Indiana area to know this much about USAC and sprints.

I lived in Terra Haute for a short time, Ohio for 12 yrs and Iowa for 1-1/2 yr. Mainly I've just been a racing/gearhead junkie since I was about 10 yrs old. I follow most all racing, and have been involved in various ways since my dad had a NASCAR Sportsman (now Nationwide) back in 1962 when I was 14.

I was racing in In. and got to fly over to Iowa and watch the Knoxville Nationals. What a race that is.

The toughest race to make the final 24 anywhere in the world. I got to go once when I lived in Clinton, IA. There are so many cars entered, you have to finish in the top 2 in heats to transfer, or finish in top 2 in B,C,D mains. It's unbelievable the number of good quality drivers that don't make the A Main.

The asphalt tracks have been notorious for taking the lives of drivers before it was their time to go.

I loved Doug Wolfgang but after the fire he basically quit. I got to meet Sammy Swindel one time, he was a nice guy.

He was the USAC king. Chili Bowl:thumbsup:

I was watching Thursday Night Thunder coverage of that race, a terrible accident, if I remember it was at Richmond IN. a dangerous track. I believe you are correct Doozer.

Wolfgang was one of the best no doubt. So is Slamming Sammy. You probably never heard of my all time favorite, Rick Ferkel, "Mr Ohio". I also pull for Jac Haudenschild, I met him when he first got started.

Stan Fox was another great driver who survived a horrific wreck at Indy only to be killed years later in an auto accident.
