Illegal immigrants are coming into Texas, but not from where one might think.
The rush is coming from Arizona, Oklahoma and other states -- places that have recently passed tough new anti-illegal immigrant laws.

The two toughest measures are in Arizona and Oklahoma.

The Oklahoma statute, which took effect in November, makes it a crime to transport, harbor or hire illegal immigrants. Effective Jan. 1, the Arizona law suspends the business license of employers who knowingly hire undocumented workers. On a second offense, the license is revoked.

Anecdotal information seems to indicate that illegal immigrants are leaving these states in growing numbers. - source

Forget the border fence. If they can not find jobs they will not come here illegaly. We should do this on a national level and require employers to verify worker IDs electroinically. The system is already in place at the federal level to do this but employers are not required by law to do it right now. The best part of this plan is that you don't need to hire thousands of federal agents to enforce it because once word gets out that employers are losing their business license for hiring illegal workers they stop doing it a demonstrated in Arizona and Oklahoma.

Thoughts?

Funny thing is, is that there are already federal laws doing just that. Just no one enforced them.

If Arizona and Oklahoma are actually planning on strictly enforcing these regulations, let's watch this play out. Anybody want to offer their thoughts on what will happen to the economies of these states? The tax revenues?

If they go down, are you arguing that they should turn a blind eye towards illegals?

you would be surprised at how well the economy is working in some areas of California. There will be people to replace them.

Spending down? Remember when we had the Latino strikes out here and they all agreed to show how their boycott of buying would hurt our economy? How did that work out for them?

about the only area that will be effected will be wal-marts across the land.

I think Dros is referring to less of a burden on Social Services, Education and Law Enforcement

this is the real solution that isnt talked about enough. enforce the laws and punish the people who exploit the cheap labor.

building a fence sounds good, but realistically, can anyone really see that being done in a way that stops anyone? i just cant see that being anything more then a sounds-better-then-it-works solution that wont solve it.

complete deportation is unrealistic and i dont find punishing a bunch of people for trying to find work particularly satisfying anyway. the real solution is an economic one..
