Kendal Septs, 2020 Offensive guard - Rivals.com
Vols offered 4/8
Kendal Septs gave a commitment to Houston to jumpstart Dana Holgorsen's recruiting efforts locally back in April. That has not stopped bigger schools from continuing to come after the colossal offensive lineman. Septs remains in high demand by multiple SEC schools, namely Florida, Tennessee and Missouri, who are in regular contact with the Fort Bend Austin (Texas) High School standout. Septs broke down his feelings on Houston and his official visit plans with Rivals.
On Houston commitment: "It felt like the right time for it. I weighed all of my options, looked into which schools made me the most comfortable and where I felt I had a good chance to play at early, and a good school for my major. Houston made the most sense in that moment." "It was tough, but Coach Holgorsen and what he's done at West Virginia and the new attitude his coaches are bringing for the team and what they're trying to do, it made sense. Everyone dreams of playing in the SEC, the biggest division with the best players, but I felt this was the best move for me."
Who's still in touch: "After I announced it (my commitment), everyone was still talking to me. Florida offered right after. I just looked for what system I fit in best, which offense worked best for me as a player and I'll look into it (my options), but right now I'm with Houston." "I talk to Mizzou every day. Tennessee was up here and that's the school who talks to me on the most consistent basis." "He (Brad Davis) was one of the first coaches to reach out to me. Missouri was my second offer my sophomore year. We're from the same city and we always have that connection. We have a good mentor and he's been a mentor for me and he looks out for me and my best interests."
"Tennessee wants me to come up to campus and wants to get me down there to see the facilities. I plan on taking all five of my official visits and one of the schools I'm definitely gonna get to is Tennessee." "I want to take a chance to see the Nebraska campus. I know the fan base from what I've seen on Twitter, how they interact with the recruits and such. I know they had a full stadium for the spring game and I would like to see what that fan base is like." "I want to take an official visit to Florida to see if I can feel at home. It would just be cool to go, just to see different things and get out more."
RIVALS REACTION
While Septs could sell anybody on his commitment to the hometown school, there is certainly a reason why he remains in contact with so many SEC schools and wants to take advantage of all five of his official visits. He has a fantastic relationship with Davis, the offensive line coach at Missouri, and showed genuine interest in both Florida and Tennessee, a new offer and a school that's been pushing hard for a visit in recent months.
Septs intends on taking four official visits -- with Tennessee, Florida, Missouri and Nebraska in mind -- in addition to Houston. In all likelihood, Holgorsen and the Cougars' staff seem like they will be in a dog fight to hold onto the three-star guard's commitment through Signing Day.
