I am curious of anyones thoughts of Tyler Maples, who have seen him play.....on film or in person. I haven't seen him...but what are your projections? From the Rivals picture of him, he looks more like Lloyd Christmas from Dumb n Dumber than a UT Football recruit (If you've seen the movie, you know what I mean)

If PF offered him a scholly I have no doubt the talent is there....thoughts?

Old topic. I think he has very good talent. He might get some looks at kickoff returns and some at WR. I really feel he will get more reps at practice as a FS. Very fast, good size, unsure about how physical he can get though.

reminds me of a guy that played years ago named Chris White. Does anyone remember him?

Yup....Chris White was under rated as a ball player, but had a nose for the football, and lead the team in interceptions....I enjoyed his free wheeling style on D.

Ive seen Maples play a couple of times and he is a very good player. However, he needs to put on a little size IMO and with the rest of the recruits (if they are as good as advertized) I dont think he will make an impact for at least a couple years.

Maples will play at the FS spot... One coach has said it, I can't remember which one. He'll redshirt, get bigger and IMO be a guy that no one talks about but will be a solid contributer

Just curious, how big was Tyrone Prothro or David Palmer? :ermm:

Yeah, Maples is skin and bones. He is extremely fast, has good quickness and hands, and has a great knack for being where the ball is. He would be a good WR but I don't see that happening with the athletes we brought in with this class. He would be a good nickel/dime back in a couple years though.

He has been primarily a WR his whole life, so I expect to at least get a crack at WR, for now. He is skinny, but he is blazing fast. Tyler ran an electronically timed 4.39 at UT's indoor facility. Plus, it seems as if we need some help at WR.

Slick Rick says, Tyler Maples is one of those guys that has been under the radar so far. He will be a very good player before he leaves Big Orange Country. He may just be the biggest sleeper in this class.

Anybody at Scout know which five freshmen that article is talking about? It supposedly makes a prediction on five freshmen who will make a significant impact this year. The picture shows Eric Berry. Who are the other four?

I know he ran a 4.39. Gerald Jones has also ran a sub 4.4, as has Ahmad Paige, as has Brent Vinson, as has Kenny O'Neal. In fact, all 4 of those have ran quicker than a 4.39 and bodies are more college ready.

Which is why I made the reference to Prothro/Palmer. Too often, I think the Vols have gotten influenced by NFL combine metrics and not concerned about whether the guys we bring in can actually play football.

I want football players, not just athletes. This guy, from what i've read, is a football player.

Vinson had over 300 yards by himself against WVUs JV. Kenny O'Neal either led the ACC or the nation as a true freshmen in returning. Paige nor GJ are duds either on the field.

Good points. Don't pay attention to TVA he just likes to start arguements

I dont think he will redshirt unless he gets injured early. I believe he may compete for a nickle or dime back position by the middle of the year. JMO

in the long run it is great to have an athlete like him and should it be as a WR or DB/FS his size and speed will help

Dont get me wrong, I hope you are right. But, with this particular class coming in there is a HUGE chance that he redshirts.
