It's one thing to declare.

It's another to hear you may not be taken in the first round and decide to come back.

I understand why Tyler is making this move, he needs money to support the family that he has. But IMO he wont last long in the NBA, i think he will end up making is living in Europe somewhere. Anyways, good luck Tyler!

Agreed.
Will he have an agent or just see where he is going in the draft -if he is drafted and maybe return?

I havent heard or read anything about if he is going to sign a agent or not. My advice would be not to, declare for the draft see where your projected to go & if it is'nt the 1st round come back for another year.

I don't think you can test the waters twice, and I am pretty sure he made and inquiry as to his draft status last year.

I am glad that Tyler came back this year, BUT wasn't he supposed to get a better jumpshot. I did not see alot of improvement this year from last. I am not bashing Tyler and I hope he does great in the NBA, but without a jump shot I do not know how long he will be able to make it. 6'7 Small fowards are not hard to come by in the NBA. Good luck Tyler and thanks for coming back for last season.

Tyler may come back though. I mean Bruce did the same thing last year because he figured T was leavin. I think he is gone as well but that wasn't a for sure thing Katz wrote about. JMO

This draft blows compared to last year. Next will be sig better. This is his best time to go. But yes, I see you point. We have had this debate before too

Im glad he stayed this past year. He made a difference for UT. I understand the money issue but cant UT help him out? I think by no means that he is ready for the Nba but sometimes a person just has to make due. Good luck T. I hope to see you in orange next year and im not talking about the Suns either

By testing the waters do you mean actually declaring for the draft or filling out the paper work to see where you could go before declaring?

I thought I heard on Plaster in Nashville a few weeks back that Smith actually hasn't "tested the waters" yet.

Tyler didn't get officially evaluated last year. Wayne did though.

So technically he can declare for the draft and remove himself as long as he doesn't hire an agent.

So as long as he doesnt sign an agent he still has the option to come back?

He could play in some of the pre-draft camps and see how he stacks up against the competition. He reminds me a lot of Sam Young from Pittsburgh and that's who he would be fighting for a first round spot in my opinion.

Sam Young is comfortably in the first round.
