As soon as this young man graduates he had better be hired as an assistant by the Lady Vols. He has basketball running to the core of his soul, he was born on orange, his name recognition is off the charts, the Summitt connection to the Vols must be maintained and I am sure it would make his mother real proud!

The young man is going to have enough on his plate the next several years without that burden.

Can we stop with all the top of Tyler Summitt as a UT basketball coach? Get real. The kid has ZERO coaching experience. Maybe he could become the team's coach--in 20 years.

So sad but so true.

Plus...he's what, 22? 23? Tops...

I have no doubt that he will one day coach but lets let him graduate college first.

Agree he will be a vol or lady vol coach and probably head coach at some point in his future. The kid is full of character and seems very bright. If basketball is what he focuses on for his future, which I believe it will be, then he will be very, very successful.

I see what you are saying but one could argue that age is about when his mom took the job. I am indifferent as to whether he should land a position. Like someone said earlier his moms ordeal will vaccuum up his whole time.

Beat me to it. Coach Pat took over at age 23. Different era, but if he wants a GA position, it should be a no brainer!

I've heard he will be a grad assistant with UNC men's team. He wants to coach men's bball. Pat is good friends with Roy williams

He said in an interview last week that he preferred the women's game.

He has stated a desire to get his feet wet out from underneath his mother's influence. He has offers from Roy Williams, Billy Donovan, and a couple others on the men's side, but he said he prefers the women's game. He has offers from Kim Mulkey at Baylor, Carolyn Peck before she retired and several others as well. His next move will be in coaching at the graduate assistant level, men's or women's , but he has admitted it will be tough leaving the area to pursue that in light of Pat's condition.

This is akin to folks wanting Al Wilson as a UT coach of any kind. It's a nice thought, but makes no sense.

Peck has been out of coaching since 2008. She did not retire, she was fired mid- year as Fla went 9-22 with a 14 game losing streak.

Like another poster said, he has way more on his plate than coaching, with his moms health. Coaching is probably the last thing on his mind, but I find it funny people saying he needs to be a GA first and needs to wait 20 more years. This kid probably knows more about basketball than most HC in the women's game. He's the son of one of the best coaches ever, men or women. He may not have coaching experience but he's learned more from Pat than he ever could from being a GA. If he wanted to, I don't think he would have any problems being an assistant coach next season. The game of basketball and the University of Tennessee is in this kids blood. Hands on training from Pat Summit your entire life is pretty good imo. I hate what Pat is going through and very sad that it will probably get much worse. It's a horrible disease.

I don't follow women's basketball that closely, so I didn't catch it at the time, but you are right. I remember her being fired now. To be fair, "retired" was Tyler's word, not mine. It may have been somewhat of a PC answer on his part rather than referencing her as having been fired.

And if he isn't ?????? He has 0 coaching experience. This kid has more on his plate than coaching. If they gave him the job and he lost his first 4 games people would be calling for his head and talking about he is not Pat. The thing is they will never be another Pat no matter how hard people hope.

You don't hire coaches because of their last name and just in case you don't get it, this isn't the University of Pat Summitt. It's the University of Tennessee, whose Lady Vols have fallen drastically the past few years as a result of their head coach having dementia
