U of L attempting to extend Charlie Strong's Contract: ESPN

Louisville is negotiating a contract extension with coach Charlie Strong to keep him with the Cardinals, sources told ESPN Wednesday.

Strong was offered the Tennessee job, but Louisville is working on extending his current five-year deal, which is worth $2.3 million per year.

In his third season, Strong guided the Cardinals to a 10-2 record, a share of the Big East title and a berth in the Allstate Sugar Bowl.

Strong, who went to Louisville after being defensive coordinator at Florida, is 24-14 with the Cardinals.

Charlie Strong, if we can get him, will seem like St. Gabriel blowing his horn on arrival compared to the no names that will end up on our sidelines as HC, may as well roll the dice we like we did with Dooley ... and saw how well that worked out.

True, but if Gundy, Strong & Fedora aren't interested I think you appoint an interim or you get a Petrino/Davis/Tressel before you pick a guaranteed bottom feeder like Dooley

Appointing an interim is just sacrificing another year. We REALLY can't afford that right now.

These names have a lot of energy with them. I can't believe there are not 100's of names out there, so, I hope we don't settle for someone who can't run a big program.

Petrino will have a hard time recruiting. I don't see any parent or guardian trusting this guy until he has several years of good behavior.

Tressel has a 5 year show cause, and I'm not putting a lot of stock in the NBC article that says it's only a 5 game suspension and a bowl game.
