UAB up 6-0 after one quarter thanks to a blocked punt returned for a TD. The unstoppable Urban Meyer offense is being outgained by UAB 99-42.

With Iowa losing to UCM (Big 10's third loss to the MAC) how bad is the Big 10 when Northwestern is arguably the best team thus far?

Iowa losing was hilarious!

I only caught 4th quarter as Iowa scored a touchdown to go up by 8. From there, Central Michigan drove down the field for a touchdown with 45 seconds left. They passed on their 2 point conversion attempt and it was broken up. They tried an onside kick and had a penalty against them allowing them to try it again. They tried it again and recovered it. With 19 seconds left, they were on like their own 38 and an Iowa player got called for a personal foul because he got into a scuffle with a CMU player way after the play was over. CMU got a few more yards and had to attempt a 47 yard kick with 10mph wind at their back. The ball was as close as you could get to skimming the crossbar. It was a career long for the kicker. Without the wind, it doesn't go in. That finish made me so happy. :)

I do have one question that I've seen a couple Iowa fans complaining about. Iowa recovered the first attempt for the onside kick and the penalty was against CMU. Why was CMU able attempt it again? Shouldn't Iowa be able to decline the penalty? I'm glad they weren't able to but man, I wouldn't be happy if this were Tennessee. That seems like a pretty stupid rule.

here's what it said happened:

"CENTRAL MICH penalty 5 yard delay of game accepted.
David Harman on-side kick recovered by CENTRAL MICH at the CMich 42."

so whatever constitutes a delay of game on a kickoff

Central Michigan was called for a delay-of-game penalty on its first onside kick. But all that did was provide another shot for the Chippewas, who recovered on their own 42-yard line.

Weird. So I guess that means the play was actually dead and the kick off never happened.

For some reason I thought the commentators said they were offsides. Or maybe they said that because they were unsure what the flag was and I didn't pay attention to what the penalty actually ended up being.

That makes sense then that Iowa couldn't decline it if it's a delay of game. But yeah... didn't know there was a play clock for a kick off?

The sad part about recovering it was that both times the kicker ran the direction to kick it to the side of the field that had 8 players on it but switched directions to kick it to the side that only had 3 players. Funny that three guys on that side of the field saw it the first time but just stood there like they were surprised when it happened again. Even sadder is the fact that CMU had one less player to attempt to recover it because he had to hold the ball since the wind kept blowing it over.

DejaVu all over again.

I didnt see it so I may have no clue what im talking about, but the penalty was accepted, so Iowa basically let them retry it?

If it's a delay of game, you wouldn't have a choice because the penalty takes place before the snap. So I guess the original kick should have never happened and didn't count.
