UCLA beats Texas, Baylor beats LSU

D1Baseball is putting all of their chips on the table for some reason on Mississippi State, FSU, Stanford and Arkansas. All have at least 3 losses to unranked teams at the time. I reckon you ride your mule until you figure out it is not a thoroughbred but a plow puller.

I didn't get to watch or listen to Friday's or Saturday's games but Sunday's game was impressive, I enjoyed watching these kids play!! Just an all-around great performance from the pitching, offense and defense! The big stage had no ill effects on all of the freshman up and down the line up or on the mound. CTV and CFA had the guys ready to play and pushed all of the right buttons.

When we get Blade back, oh man what a collection of pitchers to choose from!!

This team is going to give the SEC fits all season!! Regionals, YEP . . . Super Regionals, Oh yeah . . . Omaha, HELL YEAH!!!

I agree . . . but looking at the rosters for each of these teams you would think they are a top 15 group . . . they just haven't played to the expectations of the polls. I went back and watched highlights of the UCLA games, they look impressive!

I was asked if I would have rather played Texas on Sunday and I'm torn. We would have probably won but I think we needed the tough competition and maybe the loss to get us right for the SEC schedule. Never want to win but some times you learn more from a loss than you do a win as a team.

Why do you say we probably would have won? Sunday starter matchup favor Tennessee, in your opinion? I mean, Burns pitched a gem, then the bullpen let him down.

Everyone had at least 1 loss. UCLA lost to Baylor. I’m still most impressed with Texas. 5-run wins over Tennessee and LSU is more impressive than anything anyone else did.
I'm biased but I thought we looked better than Texas in that game, which I know is crazy considering a 5 run loss. We pounded the ball just couldn't find the holes. Everybody looked great at the plate. Patient and put really good swings on good pitches. Texas struck out more and made less contact than we did. They just found the holes when they did put the bat on the ball. This doesn't mean we are better than Texas. Definitely not saying that. Just felt like our team pitched better and saw the ball at the plate better than Texas in that game.

Honestly, I don't think there is a team in the Country that wants to play UT in a 3 game series. I mean right now. Even with Dolly needing to fix a couple things. i personally think CS was taxed a little much to come into a Texas lineup at that moment. CS will be fine and when he has life on his FB and he's locating his off speed, he's $$. I look at overall at bats and the swings we take and honestly i don't see anything that troubles me, yea its baseball and there will be some bat at bats at times but overall, I was impressed, and I think there are a lot of people that are with this team.
Imagine now adding Tidwell, Halverson and Ben Joyce to the mix. With Ben, He really hasn't been used much as yet, but that's coming. What Coach in the Country wouldn't go to that arm in a crunch? Seriously? I have seen a lot of throwers throw hard at UT but what impresses me about Joyce is his location. LOW HEAT that can throw in some off speed. 100-105 will give anyone trouble. He a work in process, I know but a weapon for sure.

Halverson and Tidwell added to that... I read a post that a guy wrote that said, "he thought this might be the best college Pitching staff Ever assembled". So, I really got to thinking about that statement.... The guy might be right, time will tell but Golly, this team is Fun.
The Offense is Legit too, top to bottom!!!

Some things that stand out too is this team has proven over time that they can hit elite pitching. Say what you want but this team hammers the baseball. IMO, Texas was very lucky that some of those rockets where at them balls.

There is a difference when a team lines up and out classes you!! I promise you this, I have watched UT baseball for a long time, this team will not be out classed in any regard. Not sure the other teams we play will be able to say that.

This team is built to win a National Title, will they. Not sure, It's Baseball. But we all need to tip the hat to the job that TV and Staff have done. UT baseball is here, and it appears to be for a while.
And it's all about having Talent and Players!!! Development too and TV's Staff is doing a heck of a job. As a fan, I have Questioned things at times but then look at their style and say,Hey these guys are pretty slick at their professions. UT Baseball is in good hands.

Side note: I predicted last year that Last year's team would go to Omaha, while there were people on this board saying we couldn't hit. Not saying I know everything about baseball, but I can tell when someone is a high tier player and a gamer, this team is Loaded with both.
If I was honest, I would even say there is enough talent on the team to have 2 SEC caliber teams. Yes, Covid helped some in that regard especially with leadership. Depth is so important, and having a bull pen full of Studs. This team grew up a lot this weekend. Mabry, Kirby and Walsh are 3 guys that will go overshadowed this year because of velo guys but those 3 will log us some critical outs. If our Starters go 5-6 innings,it's going to be hard to score runs on this team. Yes, Texas did, but we still had chances to get back in that game and some of our guys just missed their pitches and the umps didn't help any in that one game. If anyone doesn't think we are on the same level with Texas, might need to open their eyes. Yes, Texas has some players, but No way or fashion are they any better as a team. Yes, I am biased but seriously. Baseball is a different Sport than Football and other sports. Yes, the score was 7-2 in that game, but I personally think Tennessee put the Whole Nation on Alert to what's to come.

one other side note too: Some people said we made running mistakes. Some of the things we did on base running, that appear to be mistakes weren't mistakes. The Coaches have them do this. Example: Swamping runners at 2B because of a run down between 2nd and third, at first, I use to think "what are we doing" getting in run downs to get the runner to take place of the original runner. Just how they Coach , Right or wrong it's just how they do it. Usually, it's always the faster runner that's getting the base.

Another note: FA and TV do not have any patience with relieve pitchers Not throwing Strikes. One thing that has gotten on my nerves is How many HR's we have gave up over the last few years on balls left over the plate with Pitchers Counts. That has improved so far this year.

These Coaches have formulas for success, and I will tell you as a fan it's a whole lot more fun when you understand what you're watching. Remarkable really and sometimes you will even scratch your head. But as already stated. Pretty Clever. That's why I am just an average fan. Sure, is a fun time to be a UT baseball fan. My prediction for this team. 50 wins , SEC title and a Good Shot at Omaha!!

The hard contact TN made in that game is a fair point. Also, that strike zone was absurd.

This. TX faced 3 ranked teams and went 2-1. I’m still not overly impressed with their offense (despite scoring 7 & 6 runs vs. SEC teams) but their pitching and defense will keep them in a lot of games.
