I went to the game in 2002 and my interactions with the Miami fans were pretty good. I actually got a kick out of one of their tailgates having a "Hurricane Warning" flag flying.
Someone at UT had the bright idea to make that homecoming that year
Larry Cooker had that team rolling during the early 2000s, wonder what happened to that guyI'm pretty sure that game was scheduled when Miami had taken a downturn. But still, yeah even if they were average that's a pretty big name to be having as your HC game so that's really no excuse. And especially when they were coming off a dominating NC season and that team we played is one of the best teams ever not to win the NC.
Florida wanted nothing to do with the Canes back when Jimmy Johnson was their coach. You chickened out of that series after '87. There could have been some great games between those two programs from '90-'94... but that would have meant playing someone good before the Tennessee game.2024 in Gainesville
2025 in Miami
I wish more teams would do the home and home series instead of these neutral site games

I felt that way at the time, and still do a bit. But I have since come to appreciate the economics of scheduling two series of non conference opponents in the same year. That means we lose one home game of revenue, which is a cost of ten million-plus to the university and local economy.
Many don’t know this, but Spurrier was going to bring Miami back to the schedule, the SEC announced expansion sometime in 1990 or 1991 and went to an 8 game conference schedule with an 11 game season and that was the end of that
I was there for that too. Cedrick Houston took that carry. That game could’ve been a lot, lot uglier than 26-3. At least we got our revenge the next year.I was there for that game! I think it was Houston or Jabarri or it may have been Tinsley ran a simple fullback hand off up the middle for like 98 yards at the beginning of the game to the one yard line. First and goal from the one and still could not punch it in. Settle for the only three points we had of the game.

I can't say I blame them; I wouldn't want to play Miami and Florida St. in the same regular season during that time either.
I mean right now that schedule doesn't seem very tough. Yall could still win Ten games imo.To please all of UF’s schedule critics, UF must do the following...
1. Move the UT game to November.
2. Play Miami every year.
3. Play a P5 OOC game outside of Florida every year.
4. Move the Cocktail Party from Jacksonville to Athens/Gainesville permanently.
5. Give UCF a home-and-home, with the roadie played at UCF’s high school stadium instead of the Citrus Bowl.
All while keeping FSU as the season finale.
