That is a good start. Also need to drop your annual cupcake, LSU, and pick up Bama as a yearly opponent.

We do it.

Your in-state rivals are Vandy, Memphis and MTSU...and Vandy has your number recently.

Playing Bama every year is the least of UT’s problems right about now.

We would like to pick up UT-Chattanooga, but that are too strong right now. Definitely going 0-12.

Miami and Florida is hardly a rivalry game now. Just the truth.

I'm looking forward to the matchup this Saturday. Not sure where the Manny Diaz hire came from but if it doesn't work out it will be a little better timing to go after Mario Cristobal.

That said, I like Florida in this one. Just a team that has their act together and when Mark Richt left it felt like they didn't. Going through another system change on top of that seems a mighty tall order in their first game.

Miami has won seven of last eight against Gators. The South Florida kids are typically much tougher than the thin-skinned, country club lads.

If the weather is hot and humid, I will take the Canes in a 31-27 upset.

Florida lives rent free in your head, don't they?

They better. Dan Mullen's offense will 3rd down you to death. TOP will belong to the Gators. And on a hot day as you mentioned it will challenge depth and want to in the second half.

It will be hot and humid I assure you...Florida weather in august is murderously hot.

I went to the game in 2002 and my interactions with the Miami fans were pretty good. I actually got a kick out of one of their tailgates having a "Hurricane Warning" flag flying.
They have kind of a unique fanbase. Their program has multiple distinct, but short-lived periods of success but they don't have a large, live-and-die-with-the-team fanbase either.

I was there for that game! I think it was Houston or Jabarri or it may have been Tinsley ran a simple fullback hand off up the middle for like 98 yards at the beginning of the game to the one yard line. First and goal from the one and still could not punch it in. Settle for the only three points we had of the game.
I was there for that game too. That long run was the second play from scrimmage of the game. The crowd reaction after that carry was the loudest I've ever heard Neyland.

Yeah, but it represents the Miami area pretty well. All of their sports teams struggle with attendance unless they are doing well or at least in the Dolphins and Canes' cases they are playing someone big. The Dolphins likey have the strongest fanbase but they also are the oldest. They have some of the weirdest crowds I've ever seen. At kickoff the place will look empty and by the second quarter it's pretty full, and then repeat that at halftime. I get part of it was the old stadium setup the sun was killer and the new setup is much better.

Canes games forever have been hit or miss. It would be full one week for the FSU game and the next week it would look like maybe 30K. And that was even still back when they had the old Orange Bowl as their home.

Is most of Miami's fanbase alums? Like much of Central/South Florida, it seems like most people who live there aren't originally from the area and wouldn't necessarily have ties unless they actually went to UM.

I felt that way at the time, and still do a bit. But I have since come to appreciate the economics of scheduling two series of non conference opponents in the same year. That means we lose one home game of revenue, which is a cost of ten million-plus to the university and local economy.
Plus it is easier to schedule a cupcake.

Yes because they don't require we go to them the following year, costing the university and the community a fortune.

Every year we have to put up with this whiny criticism. And every year our SOS is top 10.
