Was it just me. or did anyone else notice that before the UF center snaped the ball when UF was in the shotgun, he would glance to the left. Always within one second of snaping the ball. UT never seemed to pick up on this and time a pass rush. IMO this could have set the table for several well timed sacks.

Genius! Why aren't you coaching?

Here is why you don't key in on something that seemingly obvious.

The key to playing line on either side is the jump. It all happens before the snap, by paying attention to the other guy. It's a lot like making a read in poker (I wouldn't recommend playing agaisnt any linemen that may play regularly). I've seen numerous offensive lines start drawing in defensive linemen by dropping similar hints every time a similar amount of time before the ball is snapped.

Just when the d-linemen thinks he's keyed in on hints for the snap count, the o-linemen switches up the bogus que and BOOM. Offsides. Works like a charm.

I'd assume by the time the play level gets to D-IA and NFL, that the defensive linemen know to jump only once the ball moves.

I also know that offensive lines practice together enough to manage a silent count, and don't need any sort of signals. Sometimes, you reel in a lost fish.

He was doing this every single time there was a silent count, so as a defender you jump the count until they change it up. Besides making them change the way they snap the ball could cause them all sorts of problems. The announcers even mentioned this numerous times during the broadcast.

Either way, don't take the chance and just get good at playing the ball. Maybe see if they angle their stance or any part of their body a little different to see which way they are going, but that's about it.

I still have to disagree that was a huge tell and you have to take advantage of that stuff. See once he moved his head the guards would squeeze the tackles hands to let them know about the snap, so if you make them quit the head movement then their entire line has to get a new routine.

Also Urban hasn't seemed to be very innovative in changing his schemes....

I noticed the right guard kept moving his head before the snap..I was not aware that doing so was a legal move...is it just you can't move your body, or is is supposed to include your head and all?

And what do you suppose the chance is that the Oline is smart enough to bait offsides calls on the defense? At the end of the day, you don't read read signs regarding as to when the o-line jumps. As a d-linemen, you play the ball. Period.

Well considering crowd noise I believe any change you force them to make, in regards to their pre-snap signals, is a good thing!!!

He gave this seemingly obvious tell with EVERY snap, with the SAME timing. I figure something THAT obvious was an intentional signal to the QB and offense. It was almost like UF didn't care if we knew when they were going to snap the ball -- that it would give the recievers and line more of an advantage than the UT defense.

Yeah CBS didn't show this and obviously say something about it or anything. Don't give me that i picked up on it spiel.

And #2 as soon as they saw you were getting a jump they'd switch up. It just meant hey man I'm about to snap it sometime. I'm sure he threw off his rhythym everyonce in awhile. If your on defense you look at the ball, when that thing moves you move.

If you get into the world of going off tendancies of other players, your gonna be in a world of **** and yellow flags, and getting your ass knocked off the ball.

The defense was aware of it.

The Gators got us to jump offsides once early in the game because of it.

Sounds like we need Brent Mustbooger in the booth and somebody watching the live feed with a direct line to Chavis.

FYI I was AT the game and have not seen or heard anythin CBS had to say about the game. A well timed run blitz on the 4th and one using the centers key could have been HUGE. We had absolutly NO answer for Tebow anyway. May as well and try something. Sometimes ya gotta take a chance.
