Well, according to CSS, it looks like Todd Grantham is likely to be the next DC at UGA. Grantham was DC under Romeo Crennel with the Browns, worked with Saban at MSU, and is currently the Defensive Line coach with the Dallas Cowboys. Runs a 3-4 by preference. I wonder how an NFL guy would impact their recruiting and therefore ours with guys like Nickell Robey.

Grantham is an upgrade, but as far as recruiting goes, Monte>Grantham. Grantham is someone a recruit will have to research and Monte is a well known commodity.

Uh he's right. Who's known as arguably the greatest defensive coach in NFL history and who's an unknown to all but Cowboy fans?

Well duh but what is with all of this "my dad could beat up your dad" attitude when it comes to another team getting a new coach? Monte is good all but UT is still medoicre. UGA was mediocre with a horrible DC. I just laugh at most UT fans always comparing themselves to somebody else. Why is that? Why don't you worry about yourself first?

And Saban rewrote the record books his first year at Alabama? He has set the bar in the SEC, but he had to have time, and recruiting classes to do it. His first year at Bama, is pretty similar to this years UT team.

cause college athletes only go to the place recruiting them where they know the coach's name.....:ermm:

whats the reasoning behind this? I'm not really up to date on this guy, but at face value this doesn't seem like a guy that would excite me if I were a UGA fan... Anyone less than Kirby Smart or Manny Diaz would be a dissapointment for me, but thats just me...


edit; after quickly skimming the link in the OP, this seems like a lousy hire... again, thats at face value, but the guy hasn't coached at the collegiate level since the mid 90s... this seems sketchy at best.

The irony of you coming on another team's site and saying that.

Also, what did you expect Monte to do in one year, especially with half his LB's out for the season? I believe Saban was 6-6 in his first year so don't give me that "Tennessee is still mediocre" bs as an indicator of what Monte can do.

Yeah, it's so weird that posters on a UT board would make some sort of comparison to UT when an opponent we play ever year makes a new hire. How do people draw a connection from that? I also love the Alabubba fan on a UT message board advising us to worry about ourselves. How very sage of you.

You guys are missing my point. Anybody UGA gets for their DC is an upgrade over Willie Martinez. UGA's defense probably cost them 2-3 games this year. Would Monte do a good job for them? Sure he would....anybody would! I'm not insinuating that would ever happen but what irks me is that you guys think you cornered the market on how to coach a defense.
