If you are the #1 team in college football, shouldn't you be ahead by more than 17 pts. almost midway thru the 3rd qtr. against a FCS team? UTM ran for 138yds. against UGA. Moved the ball as well if not better than UGA in the 1st Qtr. I saw several teams that looked much better than UGA this weekend. Among those: Vols, Colorado, FSU, UNC. UGA might have lost to all four of those teams if they played last Saturday. Shouldn't polls be based on performance and not expectations?

I will say in theory yes to your question. However I wouldn't read too much into that. Many coaches when putting in new coaching or breaking in a new QB with far inferior opponent try to force the most safe and underwhelming play calls until the QB and other players feel comfortable. Their defense was still rick solid those teams you mentioned would have had a hard time scoring more than 21 points this week had they played UGA. They definitely still need that 1 by their name until someone beats them.

Several time last year UGA played to the level of their opponent, the Missouri game come to mind 1st

As it stands right now, we are the only ranked team that they play. That is ridiculous.

I do wish Deon well, but I also hope several teams bring him back to the real world soon and in a very humbling manor.

Your question should then be who played well enough to jump to #1? #1, 2, and 3 were all up 3-4 scores against inferior opponents half way through their games.
