How can the Tarheels be so bad? Don't they have talented players? That is, how does their roster (as high school recruits) compare with ours?

someone told me that it's really about them starting like pretty much all freshmen or something this year

Three of the five guys with the most minutes on the team are upperclassmen, then two sophomores.

Their guard play is quite frankly the worst in their conference. It has hindered them all season. Next year should be a different story though, with the class they have coming in.

Obviously they lost a ton of experience from last year, but I'm curious how good their current players were rated coming out of high school.

They are an atrocious defensive team and Roy Boy doesn't have the offensive horses to make up for it like he did last year.

With the prospects they've got coming in next year, they will be right back in the thick of things.

Here's my assessment of the Tar Heels, minus seniors and walk-ons:

Ed Davis- Needs to diversify his offensive game, improve his hands, become a man
and play up to his ability.

John Henson- HAS to bulk up. Tons of potential, needs to expand shooting range
and work on low post moves.

Dexter Strickland- Tremendous athlete, needs to improve ballhandling and outside shot.
Poor fit for PG, (bad idea, Roy) better suited for SG/SF.

Leslie McDonald- Not a game changer, but a good shooter with potential to become a
great shooter. Work on ballhandling and driving to the basket.

Wear Twins- Best suited for complimentary roles. Need to improve decision making.

Tyler Zeller- Needs to play tougher. Learn to dunk when down low in traffic. Needs to
work on ball security.

Will Graves- Needs to be more consistent. Ability to handle and drive to basket could
make him All-ACC.

Larry Drew- Has to improve decision making. He can shoot a bit, and pass a bit, but
isn't sure when he should be doing which. Better suited as a backup.

Justin Watts- Bench player. Wasted scholly for non-ACC level talent.

It goes without saying that they all have to improve defensively, work on free throws (they're free for a reason), and they need better leadership/chemistry. Hopefully Harrison Barnes is as legit as advertised. Someone has to step up and be the primary offensive option, especially in crunch time.

I wouldn't count on UNC being this bad next year. It's pretty much an anomaly. Every good team has a bad year once in awhile.

Nah, they will definitely be back as an early favorite next year. They are simply too talented, bringing in some of the best recruits, and the talent they've got this year will be one year wiser. Nobody's leaving early after this season.
