he was also the voice of Shredder in the original TMNT cartoons. And a Navy vet. RIP

The pool party episode was a favorite. Great show, and James Avery was perfectly cast as the father.

The episode where Will's dad came to visit and left again and Will was crying to Uncle Phil will always be my favorite, and the last episode.

Wow, good call Ben. Everybody was brilliant in that show. RIP James Avery.

I've heard that that scene and Will's speech were not scripted and he was talking about his real father. I've also read that it wasn't true. I wanna believe it but i don't know.

I can believe it. There was a lot of honesty in that scene. Whether it was about his father or the show ending, I don't know.

The episodes where will gets shot, and Carlton takes the drugs from will's locker are good too.

Nothing really to do with James Avery, but the episode where Carlton breaks into his dance to the Oprah theme is must see TV.

I personally believe that it wasn't scripted. That scene was so powerful. It gets me every time. :frown:

RIP. I'm also surprised this hasn't be mentioned yet, but he was also the voice of the Shredder on the old Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle cartoons.
