Uniqueness of Tennessee

Tennessee and Missouri are tied with each other for the most bordering states around them with 8 apiece. However, South Carolina, West Virginia, and Illinois are pretty close to making 11 bordering states for Tennessee. That makes our state in fairly close proximity to nearly a quarter of the U.S. Very unique indeed.

With 8 bordering states and Alabama and Mississippi along with Tennessee having two teams each, Tennessee could very easily have 11 natural border rivalries. I doubt any other states/teams have that.

Very unique- We are the only state in the union to consistently volunteer ourselves to stifle evil and save the lives of others including Brian dating back to the Middle Ages when Monty Python was just a wee lad and Elvis hadn’t yet learned to demand a little more action.

God bless Tennessee!!!

Kentucky would have to be about the same.

A) Kentucky doesn't have as many bordering states. Tennessee has the most in the nation, tied with Missouri.
B) Tennessee is Kentucky's only bordering state school (unless you count Vandy) that is in the same conference, whereas, most of Tennessee's border states are SEC states. Harder to form rivalries with non-conference schools like Illinois or Ohio State if you're Kentucky.

So very different boats.

Kentucky has bitter rivalries with Louisville and Indiana already.

Don't forget Duke and UNC; however, this is the football forum and I think the point is no other SEC schools North of Kentucky to where Tennessee is pretty much surrounded except for NC and VA.

That is a solid recruiting foot print for all major sports.
