go out to the family of CB Jasper Howard of UCONN, who was stabbed and killed on campus Sunday morning. I am not a UCONN fan and I did not know much about the kid. I did read some about him and the coaches described him as a kid that did everything right. He was 20 years old and had a tone of talent. Sorry for your lose Howard family and Husky nation.

Hear hear. Prayers sent to the Howard family, the UConn football program and anybody else who has known him. Awful news.

This just gets more tragic...

UConn players and coaches gathered Sunday to console each other after learning of the junior's death. They said they would offer support to Howard's family, including his girlfriend, who is pregnant with their first child.

NN) -- Cornerback Jasper Howard called his mom Saturday night after Connecticut beat Louisville, and he was given the game-winning ball. He was thrilled.

Just hours later, the phone rang again. This time it was UConn football coach Randy Edsall notifying her that her son had been stabbed. He was pronounced dead early Sunday.

Howard, a 20-year-old cornerback who started in every game for the team last season, was killed following a sponsored student dance on campus, authorities said. The junior from Miami, Florida, was a soon-to-be dad, said UConn football coach Randy Edsall.

During the dance at the university's student center, a fire alarm was pulled at about 12:26 a.m., campus police Maj. Ron Blicher told reporters. More than 300 people who were attending the dance left the building and spilled out into the street. A fight broke out between two groups of people, and Howard and an unidentified person were stabbed, police said.
The incident happened at 12:33 a.m. Howard and the other victim were taken to a local hospital. Howard was then airlifted by helicopter to St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, where he later died from his injuries, police said. The second victim was treated and released.

Very sad. The kid left Miami so he would stay out of trouble and look what happened. My prayers out to the family and team.

Awful, awful news that a young man loses his life. He's around my age so I cannot imagine not being able to see the finer things in life like having children....God Bless his family and especially the pregnant girlfriend.

If you were in UConn's shoes right now? they just lost a teammate, a family member basically, and I just heard they're playing this weekend. I'm kind of torn on the issue and personally I think I would leave it up to the players. What would you guys do? And I know they are more important issues right now and pray for this young man's family and that program. That's really tough to go through.

It was an unfortunate accident.. But you gotta push through.. PLayin the game will help some of these kids more than not playing..

It will take it off their minds for at least 60 minutes..

Gosh thats really sad. I think they play though, I get the feeling that Jasper would have wanted it that way. Gotta feel bad for everyone involved. I pray that they catch the person(s) responsible.

if i were playing on that team there would be no question of playing. something like this might be easier for these guys to deal with when they are playing for him. on the football field is how they all know each other and how they all bonded. not to say that they weren't friends everywhere else also. this a game and season that will be very emotional for them, but i guarantee that every one of them plays their hearts out. this just might be the best way to try and cope with such a tragedy. but your right it should be up to them and if i had to bet i would say they would want to play and honor him.
