:bs:

Operating expenses huh, well, couldn't be the electric bill. I don't remember them using the stadium lights all too often last year.

Maybe they should have thought twice before deciding to "upgrade" the stadium. I love the way it looks now... I could have told you this would happen the second they announced that construction project.

It's still not that bad of a raise, and the price isn't too bad compared to most other big time schools.

funny time to raise prices. Are they TRYING to drive fans away?? Or are they just trying to test how much they can get out of us???

The increase:
Season ticket prices have remained $38 per game since 2001. In 2004, UTAD raised single-game ticket prices for select home games to $45, but maintained season ticket prices at $38 each.

Season ticket prices for standard seats for the 2006 football season will be $296 for seven home games -- $44 for California, Florida, LSU and Alabama; $40 for Air Force, Marshall and Kentucky. Chairback seat season tickets are $3 more per game. A total of 14.25 percent of the $296 season ticket price, or approximately $37, is sales tax.

The athletic department also announced that single-game ticket prices for four of the Vols' seven home games (California, Florida, LSU and Alabama) will increase from $45 to $50. Tickets for Air Force, Marshall and Kentucky will increase from $38 to $40.

Comparison to some other schools:
For the 2005 football season, Alabama's ticket prices ranged from $40-$50, Auburn ranged from $42-$52, LSU ranged from $36-$45, and Ole Miss ranged from $40-$42. Notre Dame's tickets were $56 a year ago, Ohio State's ticket price was $58, Oklahoma's price ranged from $52-$75 and Texas' price ranged from $56-$75.

It's not really that bad considering.

The increased ticket prices will generate approx. 2.1 million. And the new luxury boxes were supposed to be paid for by committments from big donors.

I would like to see where in the budget the operating there has been a 2 million dollar increase??????

It's not always a conspiracy. Ticket prices have been the same since 2001.

The increases are projected to raise approximately $2.5 million, which will be used for facility improvements and to ensure UTAD can maintain financial independence from the university while continuing its tradition of giving back to the university.

"The money generated from the football program allows all of our student-athletes - men and women - to have the opportunity to compete on a national level while achieving academic success," Hamilton said.

Under Hamilton's leadership, the men's athletics department has cut its operating budget by $3.5 million - from $24.06 million in 2003 to $20.51 million in 2005.

The University of Tennessee athletics department is one of fewer than 10 departments in the country that receives no funds from state subsidies or taxes. UTAD primarily is funded by donations to the Volunteer Athletics & Scholarship Fund and Lady Vol Boost-Her Club, as well as revenue from football, men's basketball and women's basketball. The only non-athletics department generated revenue is a $1 million contribution to the women's athletics department coming from student fees.

Everyone was all up in arms about us having to get a loan to pay off bball coaches. Did you ever think about where it would come from? No one forces anyone to pay those prices, it's a choice.

Exactly, I don't see what the big deal is. Did you guys expect them to remain the same price forever?

The stadium is in badly need of repairs much like the Swamp was last time I was there. Some of the cooridors in Neyland are so dark its like walking through a New York city alley with 20k people packed in there.

I hope they keep the troughs in the Men's room!

yeah, and like that last line in bold said, for those of you that live in tn, you could ALL pay for it by higher taxes...it is a public university....

and at first, yeah, it sucks, but comparing it to other schools, it's still at or a little below average.....

I thought the purpose for charging more for the elite seats to current owners , some keeping their prime seats and some giving them up (Curt Watson(sp)) was to help UT's financial status. :dunno:

Is $40-45 really that crazy for tickets these days? I mean, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill are getting upwards of $80 for their shows. NFL games can cost $200-400 for good seats.

Pay up, kids.

My Falcons season tickets are $65 a seat, $200-400 is more like ticket broker prices. Still I'd pay $40-45 a seat for UT games except that it requires the insane donations which keeps me just going to NFL games.

The last Club Seats I sat in at the Pirate Ship were over $200 a pop, face value. Those closer to the 50 were even higher. That's about the extent of my NFL knowledge.

Even at $65, who would we rather see play?

Also, the idea of "insane donations" is a myth. I have close friends who got season tickets the first year they donated, and they don't give a "ton" of money. Now. . . .you won't be on the 50 with a G-10 permit, but. . . .

yeah, but you still have to donate....on top of the ticket price increase...i can understand the frustrtation, but it's that way at any big football school....
