Up to this point of their Vol career, what letter grade would you give coach Heupel and coach Barnes?

A- for Heupel. Would be an A, but 2 bad losses this season have taken away from what an outstanding job he’s done turning our program around in such a short time. I swear some people forget what he inherited and the ncaa cloud that loomed over us. Nobody wanted to touch us.

B- for Barnes. It’s time to take the next step. There needs to be a final 4 banner.

B. Neither are elite but are also too good to fire. At least for now. Same for Vitello. They all seem to have solid, competetive programs. I hope one of them wins the big one one day. Barnes prob wont coach much longer. TV has the best shot IMO.

I actually think Vitello is the least likely of the three to win it all. Not because he isn’t great. It’s just that winning a national title in college baseball is arguably the hardest thing to do in American sports.

The Hype a B- and Barnes a B+

He's came closer than either Barnes or The Hype.

Barnes: A
Heupel: too early, year 2 success looks largely due to Hooker, Golesh, Hyatt, etc. Year 3 has no "high quality" win.

B for CJH, would be an A if they would stop laying Turds in November. Also, it would be a very different t grade if Milton doesn't go down vs WV. I think his grade would be a lot lower.

A- for Rick. Year in and year out always ranked and competing. I love watching his teams, they hustle and play great defense. It would be a lot higher if he didn't flop out of the tournament, but the regular season is great, and last year's run in the tournament was great.

A for both.

Both programs were a national laughingstock when they took over.
This. The football program was the absolute worst it has ever been when Heupel took over. In the previous 5 years we had posted the programs 2 worst season records in over 100 years with Butch's last year and Pruitt's last year and facing major NCAA violations.

The fact that we are remotely disappointed that we may go 8-4 in year 3 is remarkable as to how far the program has come from the abyss. This is a bridge year. We still don't have the depth needed to compete for an entire season yet, and we are from a prospect rating standpoint, on the cusp of signing our most highly decorated class from top to bottom since Fulmer was in his prime.

Barnes A has yet to make a deep tournament run with good talent
Heupel A- took reasonably good talent and won 11 games last year, but two years in a row his team has not shown up in Nov and gotten their tail handed to them.

Heupel B+ Given the state the program was in when he got here. He has done a good job.
Barnes B- Yes he won 1 SEC tournament. But this guy has been bounced from the big tournament early with Teams that should have won it all.

A for both considering the context (recent history). If we haven't made it past the sweet 16 or reached an SEC championship game within the next 2-3 years then those grades slip.

B to B + for both.

Get a little better during crunch time for both programs and they can easily get to an A.

Took over tough situations and running clean programs. Showing they can be competitive against anyone. Just need to get over the hump and win some big games in March and November/ January.

Heupel gets a C and trending downward, Barnes gets a B+ and is rending upward.
