Update (0-3) when Springer doesn’t play

Pons & Fulk I think gave their all last year. They seem burnt out. No improvement like the year before. Just going thru the motions.
We will win a few more & probably beat UK one time like usual lately. We need to be happy with a top 25 team.

Be happy & just wait our baseball team will be great this year. Best coach on campus

Pons and Fulky are mysteries. It’s like they were our go to players last year and now, especially Pons, seem like they are distant at times. Has the fact that the 2 freshmen coming in and taking over as our best players disrupted our team chemistry?

Can't use that as an excuse. He's a freshman and just one player. UF had their best player on the bench and weren't they missing a couple of other players, too? The rest of the roster took up the slack and beat the living hell out of us. Where are the leaders on this team? James is just a soph. That gives us 3 underclassmen as arguably our best players. Who do we go to when we need a bucket ? Who makes the big rebound or big steal when we need it? I'm not seeing a Lofton, Grant, Admiral, etc on this team among our upperclass players. When you have no leadership...no driving "will" on the roster, it means you're prone to having games where no one does anything right and the team goes in the tank. It's easy to play well when things are going your way, but when it comes to conference games and tournaments, you have to be able to have a player or two who simply won't allow the team to let down or quit. We don't have that right now. Pretty clear Fulk and Pons are not those types of players.

What we didn't want to do with our freshmen it so have it fall on them to lead this team. We wanted to ease them into those roles assuming they don't bolt for the damned NBA. Looks like we will have no choice but to saddle them with that load going forward.

Oh and one more thing. Barnes, for the love of pete, go small ball from here on out. Learn to defend the 3 and please get over your obsession with man to man. At times, a zone can be a good thing. LEARN ONE AND USE IT!!

This team is nothing more than the typical Rick Barnes team. One or two games in the tourney and that's about it. Nothing to show. Bama will win the SEC and you KNOW UT won't win a tournament.

Who are you going to replace Barnes with?

Man is the best defense against teams that bomb threes. The only reason we sometimes struggle with it is because we often have to overhelp on dribble drives when our guards struggle to stay in front of the ball.

Who is suppose to spell Springer?
This isn’t good

Springer is a good player, but I doubt he would have made that much of a difference last night. The team would have needed at least 20 or more points from him.

Man, the pessimism that's come out of the woodwork after this one loss is off the charts. Is this what happened in Ann Arbor when the Wolverines got blasted by Minny? I would hope not. These things happen. Let's just sit back, see what happens and enjoy this very good season

This is a sweet sixteen team at best but that even might be to high. No shooting, poor rebounding, and no offensive player that can take a game over if we need a basket. GBO!
It's just one of those games. Need Fulk and Pons to kick it into gear like where they were last year. Work inside out, but they need to hit their shots. Got outworked last night. Bad loss, but contrary to earlier in the year when I thought we'd be the single class of the conference, it's actually pretty dang competitive...UF, Bama, Miz, LSU, etc. We've got to bring it every night. Pretty evident Springer is the straw for the team.

I watched on mute because Vitale is so cringe

Did they say why Springer was out?
He really is. I used to like Vitale, but anymore, he is a figurehead (see Lee Corso for football). He is so uninformed on the sport and you can tell he is only parroting what he reads. He gets so lost in the action and the fact that he is put on the best games is so puzzling. His broadcast is nothing but a live action infomercial for his charities and causes, which I salute him for using his platform to promote a good message. But as far as basketball acumen, original thought, and impartiality, Jimmy Dykes is infinitely better.

Is it just me or do the Vols tend to Lose when Dickie V is calling our games? My wife has pointed this out multiple times.

A loss is a loss, regardless of the score. Hopefully, they will learn a ton from our two losses.

I also wonder if the whole campus was in a funk this week, and it rubbed off on them. Just a lot of distractions. We will know Saturday, if this was simply one game or a bigger trend.

UT will NEVER hire a coach any better than Barnes, so we may as well enjoy making the tourney every year and being a little better than average.
A ’little better than average’ is comical. Last year they were 17-14 and played .500 ball in conference play....a little better than average. This year makes your statement quite absurd.
