Things are looking real good w/ Gerald Williams. Word is that he made a 23 on his latest ACT which is enough to compensate for the class he took at University High that the NCAA is no longer accepting. He still has to make it through the Clearing House but there should be no reason for them to deny him again. Of course we heard that before so keep your :cross: . As far as his contribution to the team it wouldn't be unreasonable to think he could play meaningful minutes at DE this year especially with Walter Fisher being out. High school coaches in Florida raved about him coming out of HS and Urban Meyer even tried to rerecruit him to Florida this past year. Freak is a word that comes to mind when trying to describe Williams (legit 6'4 240+ 4.6 40), and I can only imagine how hungry he is after having gone through what he has.

The sleeper WR from Georgia Stephaun Raines looks like he won't be qualifed.

Brent Vinson is a longshot to qualify as well and the likely destination for him is Hargrave and a part of this upcoming class. Don't be surprised if he doesn't blow up while he's out there either as he was among the best in the country last year in terms of raw athletic ability and speed.

Ramar Smith has received his test scores and apparently the coaches have sent them through to the clearing house. It's still very much a mystery and he might end up at a prep school if he doesn't make it to Knoxville.

Finally, Dustin Lindsey is headed to Coffeyville Community College in Kansas for those that didn't know.

Calm down. The season does not hinge on R. Smith. I promise you that. I am not saying is not a great talent. He is. But, you people who think it is doomsday for us next season if does not qualify are underestimating the other players that fill the roster. We have plenty of good, not just serviceable, but rather GOOD options at PG. And, if he does not then the silver lining is that we will have him for 4 more years after next year. Which will help since the next couple classes for Pearl will get better and better.

I'm sure we'll have a pretty good team without Smith, because the rest of the team will be more talented than last year. But, unless the lesser-regarded Tabb develops quickly, the only option I see is Johnson. When Watson was out last year, Howell brought the ball up court and then shared the PG duties with Bradshaw. That is ok to spell the starter, but I don't think that would work over the long haul.

it could be a better thing down the road to have him no here this year. Imagine us having to replace all 5 starters in 4 years, thats a scary thought. What happend with Walter Fisher again?

Who are our good options at PG?

Tabb, Johnson, and Howell are our other options for PG. Tabb is more of a defensive stopper and Johnson isn't very explosive. Wingate has said that Howell will surprise alot of people this year.

If Major said that, we need to step up the frequency of his drug tests.

Howell is a pretty good PG, he can get the job done, if necessary. He won't be as dynamic as CJ, but he's got good hands and can keep possession.

If Jordan Howell is the best point guard a team has, that team can immediately start making plans for an NIT berth.

Please, after the season we just had, don't say the "NIT" word...

Your crazy if you think that Tennessee would go to the NIT with Howell at the point. With lofton, wingate, crews, bradshaw, chism, and the bench, we will easily get into the Ncaa tourny.

Ben Voogdt at LSU is better than Howell. Until LSU got him out of their lineup this past season, they were headed straight to the NIT. That was with Darrell Mitchell, Tyrus Thomas, and Glenn Davis. Pathetic play at the lead guard will wreck a team

Voogd was a walking turnover. Howell didn't turn it over a whole lot. We don't need a big weapon at point. We just need someone to distribute the ball and not turn it over. We have plenty of other weapons to go to. If Smith doesn't make it in, I expect Johnson to be the PG.

Howell isn't pathetic at pg. I remember him coming in when cj fould out aginst florida and helped lead the team to a win. Howell isn't the greatest pg, but he isn't a Ben Voogdt either. He has great ball handling skills and a good 3. He would be a good fill in at pg this year.

I remember him playing well in the Auburn game. IIRC, he hit a huge three right in the face of the man covering him.

Fisher had shoulder surgery and might not be able to play this year.

If Fisher misses this year, where will that leave him in terms of eligibility? Does he have 3 yrs to play 2?
