Updated AP Top 25 with Remaining Games & Other Metrics

Here's the updated Top 25 poll (11-10-24) showing each team's remaining schedule and other team ratings. The current playoff teams from last week are highlighted green.

A playoff spot will go to waste on Notre Dame, leaving <8 spots for the SEC and Big Ten. It's a damn shame looking at the disparity of schedules between the SEC and everyone else.

Alabama can coast the rest of the way. Ole Miss has two very winnable games. Tennessee or Georgia control their own destiny.
If Tennessee loses in Athens and Texas A&M later beats Texas, we have a problem unless Texas falls out.

Let's hope for some upsets in the Big Ten and their playoff teams are reduced from 4 to 3.

Because wins vs ranked teams only include those currently ranked, which is also how the CFP committee views it. Although NC State and Oklahoma were ranked at the time, they have proven to be hot garbage, so those wins get less impressive by the week.

The chart listed Vandy as a quality win for Texas, but Vandy's not ranked.

Gandalf is just asking why this chart doesn't give the Vols the same benefit it does other teams, man. I'm with him.

Absolutely correct... And I think the committee only considers where the committee currently ranks every team (not where they are currently ranked by the AP poll, Coaches poll, etc.).

I didn't list them because it would turn this clean, simple 1 page document into a bunch of irrelevant footnotes that don't matter at this stage. We all know that Oklahoma and NC State are mediocre and those wins don't matter much at this point. I didn't credit any other team that beat them either.
Vandy was ranked last week and I kept on the list because they upset Bama and are still relevant IMO.

The chart does not say "ranked wins". It says "best wins". There are other unranked teams with winning records also shown in the same column such as UNLV and others.
I'm not clear what "benefit" this chart gives to other teams but not Tennessee.

Good work! Indiana's "best win" is probably over 5-4 Nebraska.

Anyways, I think in order for an SEC team to get into the playoffs, they are going to need two wins over ranked teams (currently ranked, not some bum team that was ranked on the edge of the top 25 back in early September).

So far we only have one win (against Alabama). If we beat Georgia, we're in. Lose to Georgia, and we are out.

The SEC has nine teams in the Top 25.

The Big 10 has 4 teams in the top 6.

What that tells me is that there is a gap between good teams and bad teams in the Big 10, with 18 teams most of the teams are mediocre, and those 4 teams in the top teams have played relatively weak schedules with maybe the exception of Ohio State.

Looking across college football the SEC is the only conference with depth. The rest appear embarrassing.

I don’t think this column is a list of “quality” wins. It’s just a list of that teams “best” accomplishments or wins of the year.

If Texas is having to say “hey” look at our best wins! We beat Michigan and Vandy…. Well it’s somewhat of a fact that those are Texas “best” wins but they aren’t all that impressive.

It’s just an easy reference of what each of these teams have done so we can interpret the data.

I dont disagree about a "good win" or something subjective, just if they were supposed to still be in the top 25 I was confused. I appreciate the effort to put this together.

Is that really true though? I thought there was a big discussion about this with BCS ranks a couple years ago, and a really good explanation for why ranks at the time are used.

I’d say it’s more common sense than anything.

This is great, answers a lot of questions without trying to predict the future (impossible).

Ohio State will beat the brakes off Indiana and then we won’t be talking about them anymore (a la FSU 2023).

I’ve been predicting Georgia would loose 3 games all year. I really thought Texas would Ave been one of them. Now I have high hopes it’s Tennessee and not Georgia Tech. Their fan base has completely turned on Carson Beck. A win in Athens makes Vanderbilt of all games the nail-biter trap games of Tennessees season.

Alabama is about as wishy washy as they have ever been. Look to Auburn to really make them look bad and the committee question their position.

You can also add a yellow highlight to Texas’ win over a Michigan.

Yes, it's how they view it. Do you think anyone on the committee is saying, "Well, Georgia Tech has the best win of the season, beating the #4 team in the country during week one." ?
