A $425 million deal could merge the last 2 baseball card makers.
The latest offer for $10.75 a share if accepted would combine Topps, the 70 year old publisher of some of the most coveted cards in baseball history and maker of Bazooka bubble gum, with the 20 year old Upper Deck, known as tbe sole maker of National Hockey League cards.

I've got lots of cards from both groups-mainly baseball and football.

Are there any sports card collectors out there? What's your thoughts on this?

Collected avidly years ago. Was a much better hobby when only Topps and Fleer existed. Once Donruss joined in, I was done.

I have a reasonably strong collection from the mid 50s to the mid 80s and have a copy of every Sandy Koufax ever made. Got a few late 50s early 60s Mantles, Aarons, Mays etc.

I used to collect through high school until I couldn't use my parent's money anymore. I have some good cards one of the best being a shaq game-used jersey card!

I have a ton of baseball stuff from late 60's to late 90's. I too got fed up with trying to keep up with all the different brands and then we had girls so why bother. Now that I have a grandson and one more on the way I may start back and those two were my favorites. My prize would be an almost complete set of 63 Topps. I need two cards, Clemente' and Rose. Someday, someday. :frown:

I have a bunch of these worthless things... may try and get rid of them soon.

I have about 15,000 cards. The current market for them puts them worth as much as a load of firewood! I will save them for my son.

Lost my taste for the hobby when my friend told me he walked by a memorabilia shop and caught the owner forging a Ken Griffey Jr. signature. :jpshakehead:

Last two baseball card makers? Man, I've been out of it for a while. I collected baseball cards till about 92-93. I was about 13-14. It just got too expensive. I didn't feel like paying 2-3 bucks for 15-30 cards. That and I got burned out by the knockoffs. I was happy when it was just Topps/Fleer/Donruss. Upper Deck was ok, but then everyone started in with the "premier" cards. I don't even remember what they were all called. That's when I got fed up.

Through my years of buying several thousand packs of cards I got maybe 10-15 that were worth 10 bucks apiece. All the cards I have that are worth anything were bought at a shop or traded for.

I remember buying Mark McGwire's(my favorite player) 85 Topps Team USA card for 11 bucks in 91 or 92. Whichever was the low point in his career. I should have sold it in 98 or 99 when it was going for 200+. I don't think it's even worth 10 bucks now.

I still have them all under my bed in a big plastic container.
