Florida Football: Urban Legend Or Urban Liar? | Bleacher Report

Whether you believe he's a legend in the making or a liar, Urban Meyer stokes passions on all sides. Legend advocates will cite his second year National Championship and a sophomore Heisman Trophy winner. Liar advocates are lining up against Meyer as stories continue to build just as bridges linking Meyer to other coaches continue to burn. Consider these recent stories from other sites and sources on Meyer's recruiting tactics. It's unlikely the following schools have Meyer on their Christmas card list.

Cause hes paid to win games.

He isn't paid to be misleading. Although if his ducks are in order then it won't matter. He just needs to be careful that he doesn't burn bridges so that whistle blowers may uncover any shady activity (if it exists, and I'm not saying it does).

I read these and didn't find one that was even remotely a problem.
Michigan Site(on the recruitment of Daryl Stonum:) "The University of Florida stayed on the four star pass-catcher well all the way through. Things crescendoed recently after a conversation with Urban Meyer. According to Stonum, Meyer had a compelling reason why he should become a Gator. "He told me that he talked to Coach Carr and Coach Soup and that they told him that I would be a much better fit in the Florida offense than I would be in the one at Michigan," Stonum recalled. "I thought, wow, my coaches are selling me out.? I confronted them about it. I asked Coach Carr and Coach Soup about it and they said they never talked to that guy and that there was no way they ever said anything like that and that they think I should be a Wolverine. I believed them. Right then, I knew just how Florida rolled.?"

you dont see anything wrong with that? Of course you dont homer.

Michigan, USC, and Florida all went after this kid and hard. Why would Meyer claim that Carr had said that he'd be better at Florida while Michigan is all the time trying to recruit the player? And would anyone with Rodrigues coming in have reason to, say, embellish the Michigan side of the story?

I've Googled this story, since I am a mite suspicious about it coming from a Michigan site (they hate Florida and are envious for obvious reasons -- 1996 BCS c-ship game invite in particular).

What I am finding is a whole lot of blog entries from people saying that Stonum was quoted about this on "an internet recruiting site." If you do the same, you will find this often repeated in a comment by someone emailing in a post after an article of some sort.

So far, I've been unable to find the source of this.

That's funny, the BCS didn't even start until 1998.

The BCS championship game didn't exist in 1996. I see that I was already beat to this comment, though.

People say all kinds of stuff like that in all recruiting circles...just like Tide fans about CPF.

Not to go off topic but playing poker like that should be illegal(and by illegal I mean mandatory)!

I got to play against her at a tournament at the Horseshoe last year. She was at my table before it was broken up. When JT plays in tournaments against men, she always wears low cut stuff. Trust me, VERY HARD TO CONCENTRATE. When she plays in just womens tournaments, she has clothes that cover her up. HA HA.

Michigan hates Florida too?! Whats that saying about the enemy of my enemy being my friend?

Guess Michigan got some revenge for that 1996 slight last year though.
