Urban Meyer calls Trevor Lawrence best QB ever

Hope Clemson loses to GT first week, would be fitting of the constant anointing of both player and teams as next coming of Jesus by the media.

but for some reason he didnt fit into Botch's system. And we are still paying the worthless POS.

Urban Meyer calls Trevor Lawrence the 'best QB ever'
Has it ever been actually determined Butch turned him down because he "didn't fit his system?"

It seems to me like in his younger days, he liked Tennessee (and probably still does) but by his junior and senior year, when he was truly a prospect and he seriously starts thinking about where he wants to go, we were never in the running for him. It's hard to get too upset when a kid liked you and got his picture made on the field at Neyland as an 8th grader, but by the time he's a senior in HS his mind has changed. He was just a kid. That seems pretty understandable to me, especially when you're an elite prospect and Tennessee isn't an elite program at that moment in time.

Lawrence said it himself he grew up loving Tennessee & idolizing Peyton Manning.

He showed legitimate interest in coming here.

I think with all the negativity that was surrounding Butch at the time, made him lose interest.

And let’s face it, who can blame him?

Yeah, when he was about 12 years old. By the time he was 17/18, and an actual elite prospect who has what is essentially a business decision to make, he had to get serious. If Tennessee was a perennial top 5 program from the time he was 12 until he committed, he might comes here, but Butch isn't the reason we weren't a top program during TL's high school days.

Butch was coach from 2013-2017. TL was in high school from 2014-2017. I could see the correlation. He knew Butch could not coach.

He's had the best freshman year of just about any QB in the history of college football.................but lets pump the brakes on anointed as the greatest QB ever.

My point is that Tennessee was bad before TL entered high school, while he was in high school, and still now that he's out of high school. It isn't like Tennessee was some juggernaut when TL was a kid, then Butch came along and ruined the program and thus our chances at getting him.

Don't know.

Hindsight says Trevor and his family made a great decision for him.

UT on the other hand......

This whole Clemson-Tennessee connection drives me nuts looking back at the amount of talent that had interest in Tennessee that went on to do big things at Clemson.

I believe the call was after his sophomore yr. He wasn’t a fit for the silly, high school offense Jones runs.

Butch effect

Be fair. This is a hammy and kiffy show. We sent Clemson the star they built their success on, after he was committed to coming to Tennessee.

I knew Butch couldn’t coach by half-time of the OK game; I couldn’t coach SEC either...but I’ve watched it my whole life and can recognize ineptitude when it presents itself. But he’s not the reason the program fell apart.

Look at hammy, cheek, hart, even joed. Totally incompetent in their positions. Don’t know what happened to Joe; he seemed to start out OK but kept getting worse.

Grit your teeth and bear it. We are paying for the “ leaders” we have accepted. Hopefully the dawn is coming.

Clemson's success was built on Deshawn Watson, not Boyd. Remember, Dabo was still "Clemsoning" in the Boyd days and their fans were frustrated with him.

Yes, I remember. We would build him a statue if he would do some “Clemsoning” here.

Pre Boyd: Dabo’s first full year.
2009 9-5

With Boyd:
2010 6-7 (back-up QB)
2011 10-4 winning the ACC Championship
2012 11- 2 broke the ACC record for most touchdowns in a game. Boyd threw five touchdown passes and ran for three more, collecting eight total touchdowns and racking up 529 all-purpose yards.[6] After the season, he was named the ACC Player of the Year and AFCA 1st team All-American
2013 11–2, with Boyd completing 283-of-413 passes for 3,851 yards, 34 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. On November 14, 2013 Boyd set the ACC career passing touchdowns record.[9][10] In his final collegiate game against the Ohio State Buckeyes in the 2014 Orange Bowl, Boyd helped lead the Tigers to a 40–35 victory, completing 31-of-40 passes for 378 yards and five passing touchdowns. He also had 127 rushing yards and a touchdown.[11] His performance set an Orange Bowl record for total yards in a game.[12]

And for comparison:

2009 Lane Kiffin 7–6
2010 Derek Dooley 6–7
2011 Derek Dooley 5–7
2012 Derek Dooley 5–7
2013 Butch Jones 5-7
