Urban still stressed out

Shouldn't Meyer be scolding Thompson for saying that and not the reporter for doing his job?

Seems like the reporter did intentionally use that quote out of context and it made Deonte look bad. I can't really fault Urban for this one.

I can fault him on how he responded to the reporter and under what circumstances. But, that's just me. Maybe all that's acceptable in that venue.

No, he was sending a message to more than that particular reporter. I hate Florida. I can't stand Meyer. But I liked how he handled this.

It's utter crap to misrepresent a guy like that just to sell your story, and at the great expense of the player.

Yeah, probably. That's why I wasn't sure how things are done in that field. I'm just better with one on one with anyone I have a problem with. But, that's a whole other thing. :good!:

I see what you are saying. I think I would usually agree. This circumstance is an exceptional one to me, though. Those media guys are sharks, and you want them to know that no matter how much blood they smell, no meal is free.

I think most of media are scum. But I read Fowler every now and then and have always thought he was a homer.
For you guys saying he deserved it, why? He didnt lead with the quote he didnt headline the quote.
Im just curious I think CUM was very unproffesional.

IMO, this was a lil over the top. Bet you $100 he wouldn't defend a player like Bobby Kane (who is also a part of the team)

He quoted the kid, he didn't twist the kids words, the player in question answered the question very poorly and he was quoted. I would have to know whether the kid called Tebow a living legend in the same sentence or if it was later in the interview to decide if the reporter misrepresented the kids statement or not. On the surface it looks like Urban be Urban IMO.

Great that he defended his player, but he doesn't need to threaten to ban the newspaper in question from covering practice, etc.

For the people backing up Meyer in this: Are you kidding? Have you actually READ the story/blog? Fowler does NOT use that quote at the beginning, as a headline seller, or even in bold! If Fowler sensationalized this quote at all then maybe but the kid said what he said, got quoted and Urban is mad at a reporter for not paraphrasing in a way that puts Deonte in a good light. Urban Meyer should be apologizing soon because he acted as an immature 16 year old to a guy who was doing his job. Shame on anyone who thinks Fowler is to blame here..... maybe next time he WILL sensationalize and even make Deonte and Urban look bad in the process.

Even as a Gator fan, I think Urban acted in haste but also the way it was presented made it look like Deonte was slighting TT when if he would have used another word to describe i.e. traditional, pro-style, etc., we wouldn't be having this conversation. Urban defintely could have handled it differently. Now he justs brings more attention to it.

I think its just praising Brantley, It is not Fowlers job to make comments like this into freshly baked cupcakes and butterflies because the kid was stupid with his words. Thompson is to blame and no one else, simple as that. I feel bad for gator fans right now because I would be flat out embarrassed right now by my head coach... trust a Vol fan...we know the feeling. *cough* last year *cough* :banghead2:

I don't know exactly what the original article said, but I don't see how you can blame a guy for quoting a player and writing a story about it. It doesn't matter if he tries to twist the words a little, that's his f***ing job. Saying that the Gators finally have a "real QB" is news worthy, so I don't see what the problem is here.

Florida Gators WR Deonte Thompson sounds happy to usher in post-Tebow era – Swamp Things – Gators Blog – Orlando Sentinel

Read the article and tell me how it's out of line? He just quoted Deonte and even said after the quote that he Deonte may not have really meant it in that way.

That's not how the original story was released. The "I have received a lot of feedback..." part wasn't there before. He read into the quote, instead of asking for clarification. It's bad journalism.
