US combat ops in Iraq to end at year end

This is a good thing but we shouldn’t publicly announce our intentions 6 months out.
If we wait, we are abandoning our allies, or lying to the public, or leaving equipment behind, or whatever other excuse can be made to keep us in the mess for another decade.

We've pulled out of Iraq before only to have to go back in. Let's hope this one sticks

His Afghanistan withdrawal was an abomination. Not that it was done but that it was done so poorly.

But I am glad to see us getting out of foreign entanglements. I’m sick of US money going to rebuild crap hole countries that hate us regardless. So good job Joseph. You finally did something right. Keep it up. :)

However, I do wonder if the withdrawals are just freeing us up for war with Russia and China. Guess we’ll know soon enough.

We’re already in a proxy war with Russia.

Kind of mixed feelings. Iraq is in a great location to ensure American military presence in the Middle East (dead center of the region).
We still haven't left occupations in Germany, Japan, or South Korea. Granted they are not classified as occupations anymore but we are still very much in those countries and have been since 1940s.

Pulling out of the region will likely reduce our presence in one of the most oil rich regions of the world.

Often they're craphole places because we've made them so. The rebuilding is done because we destroyed them to start with. Then we're shocked that they don't like us.
Ideally our withdrawal from Iraq won't be a complete cluster**** like Afghanistan was and we won't leave things ripe for Daesh to gain power.

Hopefully but who knows anymore. This whole nation building approach to war doesn’t seem to work at all. Seems to fall apart as soon as our military influence leaves.

Is this where the Shia take over Iraq and we double our offer to Iran?
