The United States and Vietnam’s defense ministry have launched the first cleanup operation to rid a former air base of a toxic dioxin left from the Vietnam war. Although many people have welcomed the move, some say it is too little, too late to help generations of people suffering birth defects and diseases linked to the chemical.

US, Vietnam Launch Agent Orange Cleanup

Some have hailed the project as a historic turning point for both governments after years of wrangling over the issue.

Good lord..It would seem like we could have got together years before now to clean this garbage up.

Shouldn't there be a dang statute of limtations on our desire to fix wrongs we may have comitted in the past. We sunk enough money into that country - for good reasons or bad. We have enough superfund sites of our own here in the US to clean up.

1) This has to do with budding up to Vietnam due to its strategic location to China.

2) I saw a lot of kids with birth effects over there due to Agent Orange. Sad stuff.

3) They use a lot of negative propaganda over there because of it. Hopefully it will help improve our image over there.

We should definitely help clean that up. We shouldn't have been involved in that war in the first place.
