What ever happened to having to have a good season before you get ranked highly. Examples include Ole miss (football) Notre Dame (every sport)

If their scrimmage yesterday was any indication, this will be Kentucky's starting lineup:

G- John Wall, FR, 6'4"
G- Eric Bledsoe, FR, 6'1"
F- Darius Miller, SO, 6'7"
F- Pattrick Patterson, JR, 6'9"
C- DeMarcus Cousins, FR, 6'11"

Wall had 25 points, 11 assists, and 7 rebounds in the scrimmage. He's not a great shooter, but an amazing play-maker.

They're a legit Top 5 team.

I'd have liked them around 15 and then prove themselves. Could they be a top 5 team, of course. But 3 of these kids have never played in a collegiate game.

You have to prove yourself regardless of where you're ranked in the preseason. These rankings mean nothing. As expected, the voters felt UK is one of the best teams in the country... and I don't disagree with that.

UK will take some losses early, but they'll be a legit top 5 team come March. Unfortunately, there won't be a meltdown.

I agree with you 100%. Anytime you have that much youth on a team there are going to be some bumps in the road for sure. But at the same time - if you watched the scrimmage last night it's impossible to deny the talent level is definitely there. Speed as well. Wall and Bledsoe in the backcourt together will present offensive and defensive problems for most any team. Is definitely going to be an interesting team to keep an eye on.

You don't think Ole Miss had a good football season last year?

UK's roster this year is almost completely different from last year's debacle. They have top 5 talent. I'm actually surprised they weren't 1 or 2 spots higher, TBH.

Like our Volunteers, one of the Cats struggles may be from behind the arc. Wall and Bledsoe don't look to pose much of a threat, but Dodson has shown flashes.

In agreement again. No proven 3 point shooters at this point. Dodson is streaky at best. Definitely a work in progress. I like their athleticism and effort so far - time will tell. Liggins was painfull to watch though. Perry Stevenson looked lost as well.

The only rankings that really stand out to me are Duke at #8 and Cal at # 12. I thought UL might have been in the 15-20 range. Not because I neccessarily believe they belong there, just a hunch.

We basically have 3 shooters. Hood, Dodson, and Harrellson, of which none are starters. All will see time in the rotation, but if the starting line up that is predicted holds true, then they are limited. Cousins actually shoots its well for his size, but you can't depend on that. Miller and Bledsoe are both streaky, but not dependable.

However, I'm not that worried. Nobody is going to stop lane penetration against this team, even with an 8 man zone.

Cousins may start the entire season, but practice reports and Cal's own words seem to indicate that Orton will get just the same amount of minutes. As some expected, the work ethic between the two is quite different, and Orton continually out works him in the scrimmages and practice. We shall see how that plays out.

From the scrimmage, it looked like Cal may go 9-deep with Dodson, Hood, Orton, and Harrellson coming off the bench. Will Liggins, Harris, and Stevenson really be left out of the rotation? This just proves the talent level on that squad is outrageous.

This appears to be the rotation that will see all of the minutes. I hate to say it, but seniors Ramon and Perry are not going to see substantial minutes. It has been noted that they are having trouble finding a role on this team.

However Liggins, as dubbed by several of the coaches, is the "X" factor. They say he has the ability to contribute in a major way, on the wing. However he was full of the same mistakes as last year during the scrimmage, turning the ball over. We shall see.

You better hope so. I'd imagine UK will see quite a bit of zone this season.

Yeah, teams will bring the zone out. However they will probably come out of it by half when the rebounding margin is + 15. We should be monsters on the boards, especially against a zone block out.

Good enough to be number 4?? I know comparing Football to BB is apples and oranges but UGA football has top 5 talent too. I just dont believe in random guesses based off of "could be" or "should be" statements.
