I'm anxious to see if Mercedes makes the team. This will be a good test to see where her game is.

Given that Russell didn't play all year, I would think it will be tough for her to make the team--but good experience either way.

It would be great if they both made it. It will only make them stronger and help our team next season.

Russell was ready to go by January, but they didn't want to waste a year for a couple of months, which is smart.

People are going to be shocked when they see Mercedes play. She is bigger, stronger, and faster than last season with much better movement.

She has a very good chance at making this team.

Part of me want them both to make it, the other part of me is selfish and would like them to not make it. I think it would make them hungrier to know that they were passed over by players who may need be as good as them. I also would like for us to go into practices in the fall healthy and don't want to see them getting hurt in "meaningless" games.

I just hope the entire team make it through the entire season, including these summer activities, 100% healthy. If everyone stays healthy, we have a good chance of getting over the Elite 8 hump on to the Final Four.
I agree about Russell. If she plays the like the raves and reviews that are coming out of practices, she should make the team. I know for a fact that Dean has been working with her one on one this entire season on developing post moves, footwork and back to the basket situations. She has went through rehab plus strength and conditioning with Coach Lee. He has transformed her body and is evident in the pictures. She has put on muscle and her base will be much stronger. There is also a picture of her jumping up grabbing the rim, which I believe seemes impossible her Freshman season. I am just anxious and excited to see what Russell can do in game speed. If Dean can develop Russell with her height and side the way he did Harrison, watch out because she has the chance to be scary good. I know she has to knock the rust off and get in basketball game shape, but by December/January, we should see the real Mercedes Russell. We all know what Diamond DeShields is capable of, just refer to the game at Duke her Freshmen season.

Injuries are part of the game. If they weren't playing USA games, they could get hurt in Italy this summer.

I want the Lady Vol brand to be entrenched in USA Basketball. It will help with recruiting, and give our name a bigger stage in the sport.

Totally agree. You could say the same for UCONN with Stewie, as far as risk for injuries. The opportunity allows for player growth and development and leadership. And I'm so excited for Russell to get back on the court :)

wow, they list Russell at 6' 6" and 170 lbs. I never realized she was so slender. most of her competition for a spot has > 30 lbs on her.... :(

I'm sorry to hear that you think playing for your country in international competition is a meaningless game. I guarantee you that the players do not feel that way.
