USC article...

Fwiw I do like the fact that USC is cleaning house in a big way, and it seems like kiffin is going to have to win big right away and do it clean or else he's on the hot seat. Kudos to the university for trying to move on as best they can.

I don't think their efforts will get them a reprieve of the second year on the bowl banning. I do see them recouping a few scholarships though.

This. All of their "corrective" actions are too little, too late. Had they made a change at AD when all of this stuff started surfacing, they may have been in better shape. But they kept Garret, and he hired two coaches who were part of the staff that got them in this mess.

Great article. I hope it doesn't help their appeal. If a university doesn't fully cooperate until after they are caught I don't care what they do after they are punished. They should be fixing up their institution for their own good not to try to have less of a punishment.

IIRC they were slow to act when the punishments were dolled out because of the change of school Presidents... That, and a lot of this is on USC's compliance officials. Other than that, school officials would only have the news to go off of.

This is what happens when the watchdogs suck at their jobs. I still say kudos to them for cleaning house top to bottom. And I still get the feeling that Kiffin will have to win the Pac-10 either this year or next, and not have even so much as an illegitimate text message to a recruit in that time span to stay off the hot seat.

I could not agree more. Man, did USC bungle this whole thing. They have now cleaned house of everybody but Kifftard, the walking seconday violation machine. He has to know he has very little room for error or he will be gone, too. I just want to see Ogre-on jump ship on him soon.

Per ESPN rumors;

Jeff Miller of the Orange County Register says that the hiring of Pat Haden as athletic director -- and, more specifically, Haden's hiring of J.K. McKay as associate AD for football -- could hasten the departure of coach Lane Kiffin from USC.

Miller writes that Kiffin is "an NCAA violation about to happen," and that McKay's real job is to "baby sit" the coach -- who will welcome McKay as much as he would "welcome walking pneumonia."

Moreover, Miller predicts that it may only be a matter of time before Kiffin begins to look for a way out. Miller writes: "USC fans, we have to be honest, we don't see this ending well for the new football coaching staff. Kiffin's time here could be short. It doesn't require much imagination to see heads butting all over Heritage Hall."

Whenever that happens, it'll be interesting to see if Haden is able to talk either of USC's NFL coaching alums (Jeff Fisher or Jack Del Rio) into returning to Troy, something Mike Garrett was unable to do.

(For the record, Pete Fiutak of CollegeFootballNews.com says that Haden should just come out and fire Kiffin already.)

this is a great read

Carroll, Garrett fiddled while Troy burned - College Football - Rivals.com

also love this quote

"Kiffin hasn’t even coached a game and must already be wishing he was back on ol’ Rocky Top"

The best thing that has happen to UT was him leaving.IMO...:good!:
Kiffin was just a B.S.'er, like his former boss Garrett. And USC will scrutinize him pretty thoroughly for the next couple of years. It may be that Haden and the ptb will want to divorce USC from any and all things Garrett, including Kiffin. Two mediocre seasons, even including consideration of the sanctions, might do Kiffin in, three almost certainly would.

That is because of the USC attitude, translate that as the entire southern California area mentality, thinking that, "we are above everything and don't sweat the small stuff," small stuff being USC living and abiding by its own rules.

Anyone want to place bets on how long it will be until Kiffin is someone's OC again? Maybe a bet on how long it will take Orgeron to jump ship? If it turns out bad for them all i can say is it couldn't have happened to a better set of assclowns.

Exactly. I felt like Garret bringing Kiffin and Ogre back was a slap in the face of the NCAA and their impending investigation.

I think you may be right about that....i believe i read/heard the reaction to bringing in part of the nucleus that was the when all or most of the infractions happened by USC fans & alum was.....less than enthusiastic. I think this puts even more pressure on Kiffin, aside from filling in for Carroll, to yield results even faster and likely gives him a much shorter leash.

....or we can only hope anyway.

Heard Haden's interview on Rome yesterday. When Rome asked Haden about Kiffin, his response was more or less, "he's our coach." and that was about it.

Kiffin better win big and run things like a Buddhist monastery.

I don't, and F the NCAA if they give any back to them. Rules were broken, and the punishment needs to stick.
