LOS ANGELES -- Jethro Franklin, who coached the Green Bay Packers' defensive line for the past five years, was hired Thursday as the defensive line coach at national champion Southern California.
Franklin, 39, began his coaching career at Fresno State, his alma mater, where he was in charge of the defensive line from 1991-98. He coached the defensive line at UCLA for one year before being hired by the Packers.
Franklin succeeds Ed Orgeron, who was hired last month as head coach at Mississippi Rebels.
Franklin was a starting defensive lineman at Fresno State in 1986-87 and had 31½ career sacks.
