I hate that SOB but hes gonna win some ball games out West

I wouldn't count the wins just yet. Life as the one trick pony PAC10 conference is closing out. Carroll saw it coming and got out while the getting was good. Kiffin will struggle with UCLA, Stanford, Wash St., Oregon, and Oregon St. The only light spot on the schedule is the trips to Arizona.

Yeah, Washington State is building a real powerhouse.

Kiffin is going to win championships out there. Anyone who doesn't believe that has to be kidding themselves.

Yeah, Kiffin's coaching ability just screams championships. The guy will have that program floundering in 5 years. His inability to coach coupled with the rest of the league having coaches that are far his superior add up to USC returning to Larry Smith days.

Even if you were right about his coaching abilities, as long as he can recruit and continues to hire top quality staff, he'll win.

carroll returned them to prominance and their so cal pipeline is the best it has ever been. kiffin would have to be a pretty crappy coach to return them to the larry smith days anytime soon.

Club Kiffin members will tout his recruiting abilities. But look what he did to UT - brought in questionable character and the two classes he gets credit for are average and falling through attrition.

There is no question his coaching ability is average at best. He is a terrible game coach. He is still young so he may be able to learn, but I have serious reservations.

His biggest problem is that the rest of the conference is upgrading. While USC took a huge hit losing Pete, everyone else is improving. USC fans are a fickle bunch to begin with. They support a winner but apathy is quick to set in. There's a reason LA doesn't have an NFL team - football is an afterthought. If Slick Rick across town kicks in Kiffin's teeth (like he did last year), it won't be long before the Holiday Bowl is USCs regular year end game.

His recruiting will take a hit from increased competition that Pete didn't have to deal with. And I think the top staff issue will bite him as well. He's done a good job alienating himself from everyone in the coaching ranks outside his current inner circle. That will end up haunting him in the long run.

Good grief. Someone is delusional. Kiffin OC'd the best offense ever at that point. His DC is the best in college football. He and Ed O are two of the best recruiters in football. USC is at worst the #3 most desired school for football recruits these days. No football program anywhere near him is close. He's going to be fine. Even if they were, he had a top 5 class lined up to come to a UT program that's been mired in mediocrity for a decade even with Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, Les Miles, and Mark Richt next door. As for Slick Rick, he was one foot away from losing to by far the least talented team Kiffin is ever going to coach.

most (if not all) of this increased competition you speak of was in place while pete was running off 7 straight pac-10 championships. no one more than me would like to see kiffin fail, but i don't see it happening.

You predict Kiffin will be a great coach with great success. I predict he will flounder and be mediocre.

Time will tell.

Yeah, Ty Willingham 1.0 and Ty Willingham 2.0 are on par with Harbaugh and Sarkisian.

i see so sarkisian is great and kiffin sucks?

and i'll bet any amount of money you want that harbaugh will be gone from the pac-10 after this season. and let's not forget harbaugh doesn't even have a winning record at stanford. edit: as for ty he took stanford to a rose bowl. harbaugh's best season is an 8 win season.

Great point. Pete was so scared of competition he left for the NFL.

Sarkisian has proven to be a better head coach than Kiffin. Not saying Sark is great, just better than Kiffin.

And what is Harbaugh's record against the great Carroll-led Trojans? You think Kiffin will do any better?

The guy is brilliant. Get a fat raise before you get your butt kicked. Why sit around a sliding USC? Cash in on his high stock now. He sits at USC and they struggle, he never lands the NFL job.

how has sarkisian proven to be a better head coach than kiffin?

harbaugh is 2-1 and one of those games was a complete and utter fluke. i think kiffin will do much better. harbaugh has a losing record against many pretty mediocre pac-10 coaches including jeff tedford.

getting his butt kicked? stats from the last 5 years. with this type of talent edge any coach could win 10 games.

Look, Carroll is a smart guy and a great coach. He dominated his league. He had the easiest coaching job in America - bar none.

He could have stayed at USC and fared decently forever. But he is coming off the run of a coaching lifetime, the NCAA is sniffing hard around the athletics department, and the coaching landscape in the conference is getting better.

The train at USC has crested and there is no place to go but down. Carroll cashed in and moved on.

Apparently not. It took an Emerald Bowl win to get 9 wins last year.

his players completely mailed it in once they were out of the pac-10 race. i do think they were tuning carroll out.

if he had hte easist job in america why wouldn't kiffin succeed?

i do agree his success isn't replicatable by kiffin, that still doesn't mean he can win 10 games a season 3 out of 4 years and occasionally win a NC if he keeps the recruiting machine going.
