ESPN article on Kiffin's OC search:

Sources: Lane Kiffin contacts candidates for USC Trojans offensive coordinator job - ESPN Los Angeles

Does anyone know why CJC stayed? Did Kiffin ask him to go to USC and CJC turned him down or did Kiffin not offer?

If Kiffin didn't offer, i am curious as to why?

Any thoughts. . .

(and i know Kiffin is gone, but its the off season and I put this in the "around NCAA" thread. I am excited about CJC this season, but since CJC is our OC, I am curious if Kiffin didn't want to rehire him).

I would guess Chaney stayed because he figured he would gain more control over the offense than he had with Kiffin. I think another reason is Kiffin really thought he could land Chow who is considered one of the best OCs in college.

I'm not so sure he enjoyed his time in the Lane Kiffin experiment

I am curious as to what role CJC had last year. Whether Kiffin was doing most the work, or just final decision making as to the play call.

I think we can all admit the Offense was vastly improved in 09 v. 08 and I want to credit CJC for that.

Chow was shoved down Kiff's throat by Garrett...

Also, one clue that CJC and Kiffin didn't get along was that CJC was interviewing prior to Kiffin leaving (Bears OC/ Marshal HC).

Glad he stayed.

Then chow used it as leverage to get a raise. Dan patrick had RN live and was asking him on the air to put Norm on to say he wasn't going the morning it happened. Norm wouldn't come to the phone but said "I'm staying at UCLA"

Him interviewing for other jobs doesn't mean they didn't get along, it just means he's looking to eventually advance his career.

How is interviewing for two jobs better than the one you have an indication you don't like your boss?

Garrett was naive and thought he could land Chow because it is USC. Kiffin hates Chow. Rumors they have been in fist fights. Kiffin was ok with taking him because it is his dream job and was probably part of the stipulation to get the job (just like bringing Daddy and O are stipulations for getting the job).
