A couple years back when the NCAA meted out punishment for USC's serious violations, it was viewed at the time as very heavy-handed and, while not a death sentence, a sledgehammer upside the head of their football program. No doubt, the NCAA thought they would cripple the program's performance in the near-term as punishment for their wrong-doing.

Looking at USC's recruiting this year, they are absolutely crushing it (at least on paper). While the sanctions cut back on their total scholarships big time, USC has very smartly focused on quality: Of their current 14 recruits, 6 are 5* and 8 are 4*.... and that's it! Granted, given Kiffy's penchant for attracting thugs, retards and general miscreants, some of these recruits will bust.

If a team like USC can whistle by the graveyard, and rub it right back in the face of the NCAA, I'm guessing they are pretty freakin peeved right now, and ready to really bolt down the screws on the next team du jour.

What effect do you think these circumstances might have on future NCAA penalties?

I'll hang up now and listen. Cheers!

Well that would have been Miami, but due to the NCAAs own dumbassery, they will probably let Miami slide with less of a punishment than they deserve.

They wouldn't be having depth problems and losing six games if not for the sanctions.

Yeah losing 6 games is because Kiffy sucks.......He fooled USC by beating Georgia and USCjr. While he was here with Fulmer's recruits and he also had ERIC BERRY.

I am inclined to think that the NCAA's self-investigation will only delay the inevitable. If the scope of allegations against Miami is proved to be correct, they still deserve to be hit with a sledgehammer.

They are going to have major depth problems soon. They only signed 12 guys today. Yikes!

USC, despite their inevitable forthcoming depth problems and (in my opinion) mediocre at best head coach, will always be able to recruit at an elite level simply because of their university's name.

Similar to Penn State, they have fallen from the pedestal and landed on a pillow.

This won't change a damn thing.

I might be mistaken, but I believe this is their first actual year of scholarship reductions...they found two loopholes (the NCAA appeal of sanctions process and then another one) to push the start of the scholarship reductions back two more years (to this season).

They still have to endure losing 30 scholarships over a 3 years though.

They can sign 5 stars at every position if they want, but that won't help them much when the roster is depleted. Things are going to get very ugly for them soon. I would expect next years class to be ranked much lower.

It happened last year, will happen this year and next.

Everybody knew USC would have a thin roster.

You are correct. They could only sign 15. They have to be selective. Not a single 3 star in that class. All 5 and 4 stars.

I'm not sure why I am even posting this.

Kiffy fires his OC two days after signing day:

“According to multiple sources Friday, Kennedy Polamalu will not return to USC next season as the Trojans' offensive coordinator.”
USCFootball.com - More changes for USC

Was he the play caller or was Kiffin? Also, I don't think firing him solves very much of their problems. Yeah, the offense had a few issues, but most of the problems were on the defensive side of the ball as Monte proved he sucked at the college level.

I saw another article that seems to lend that Kiffin was the play caller. The timing of the firing is what I thought was weird. Everyone expected them to struggle with the sanction limitations, but I believe Kiffy's ego wouldn't let him accept it.
