It is finals week, I wonder if

(1) Xavier has hit the limit of games
(2) One or both teams is having trouble getting a full roster due to exams

The press release I read said that Tennessee had canceled the game, but mentioned no reason. I'm sure there is one, so why not let the Vol's long suffering fans in on it?

My guess--and it's only a guess--is that the game couldn't help either team.

Believe it or not, it's still mathematically possible for us to get to 45 or so in RPI before the SEC tourney. A home win against hapless Xavier would hurt us in RPI, and they have nothing to gain from coming down to make their 11-33 season any more miserable than it already is.

And neither team probably minds resting some arms.

What's ironic here is that cold weather teams are having the best season in decades- in particular the Big10.

So there will be a lot of apple-to-apple discussion with teams that have played fewer games than allowed. So Tennessee - if they do turn it around the last 3 weeks, will have roughly the same number of games played as the ranked Big10 teams with a likely higher RPI rating due to SEC schedule contribution to schedule strength.

how many games do we need to win out to get under 50? When you said mathematically possible I hope its not winning all of them......

Zero chance this game was cancelled for rpi purposes.

If we are worried about a regional at large(which is comical at this point) getting to a .500 overall record is much more of a Pressing worry than rpi.

OldTimer, Boyd's World posts an RPI needs report which give a rough estimate of what teams need to do to get an RPI that puts them in the ballpark of top 8, top 16, top 32, or top 45.

Top 45 is about the worst RPI a team could have and still have even a prayer of an at large bid. We need to win out to get to that level.

BruinVol, you went into huff-puff-and-harrumph mode without reading my post carefully. I didn't say the game was cancelled for RPI reasons. I said the game couldn't help either team.

I offered the RPI trivia as a curiosity only. Believe it or not, I was able to figure out all by myself that we're unlikely to go undefeated the rest of the season. But I'll give you credit. You were all over the fact that we're not getting an at-large bid this year. Thanks for the insightful analysis.

I guess we can expect the Belmont and unc Asheville games to be canceled as well. Makes perfect sense it just doesn't help either team

Geesh, Bruin, give it a rest! You are determined to distort and twist a simple observation into something way more than it was intended for. I said up front that I didn't know why it was cancelled. Why are you so offended to read that it was going to be a crap game that neither team would regret dropping if an obstacle to playing it arose? You're straining at gnats. Let it go. Go back to your usual role of exaggerating how much financial aid all the baseball players at Vandy are getting.
