Amazing how much easier it is to raise money when you put a quality product on the floor.

I wish I had the money to throw around and get my name on a UT facility, but it is great to know that the Vols will have a competitive facility to practice in and recruit with.

Not only has he slapped Mears in the face but so has the sorry Board of Trustees and so has Pratt.

How is it a sellout for the Athletic Department to accept a $5 million donation? What did you want them to do, sell lemonade until they reached their goal?

That would be a lot of lemonade, I don't even wanna think about that.

How is Hamilton a sellout? Look around campus and well..EVERYWHERE that has used donations. The name's on the building.

I don't understand how it's a slap to Mears...or anyone else.

That's the way things are now. Those who donate, in a symbol of appreciation, get their name on the building. Plus, it's only a practice facility....

Put it on a room but the building or stadium or field should carry a coaches or athletes name not someone who never played at UT and got a little money and wants to throw it around to act like a bigshot. If he wants his name on a building then donate to the University! they are trying to raise $345 million for improvements.

ray mear's money isn't paying for the bldg though..they have to raise ALL capital before they start construction, and his 5million brings them really close.

I don't think he's trying to act like a big shot, I think he's answering athletic's call for support to give our teams some of the best facilities around.

In your same argument, why put their names on buildings around the University? Why not name it after teachers or scholars or astronauts? Not just some students that are making big bucks throwing around...right?

I like that Idea also

I can understand the sentiment, but I bet 90% of the buildings in America are named after companies or people that fund them.

Bruce has helped UT in so many different ways it amazing. Whats really amazing though is that it will be fully funded before ground breaking!

i'd much rather have this practice arena and have it named after some booster, than to have to wait a while for them to get the funds up and name it after Mears.

I think its great that the University has individuals who are proud enough of their school and are willing to give finiancial help to sports facilities that will greatly improve our chances of being among the top schools in the country.

I totally disagree with the idea that a person should not have their name placed on such a facility. Some people need to wake up and smell the coffee.

What is the difference in Sheilds-Watkins field, Ayers Hall, etc. the list goes on and on.

Be apperciative of what people are trying to do for the School.

Maybe if Mears had ever won some NCAA tournament games, instead of losing to the likes of VMI, they would have named the facility after him.

There are plenty of athletes who played at UT who could have made this donation but didn't. I am thankful this Man gave back to His school...I am as much a VOL FAN as anyone....But to say it should be named after someone only who played is narrow minded!!!!! :fool:
