I am amazed that UT is fighting for its life against Wofford.

I think Buzz Peterson is enjoying his last year as UT's head ball coach.

held on 73-67 but it was not pretty. We had to score the last 12 in the game to pull it off. I think it's going to be a long year.

I'm not sure how good the Miami Hurricanes are in basketball but they just beat Wofford by 3.

Hopefully tonights game had something to do with jet lag from the trip back from Hawaii.

There really should be no excuse not to beat Wofford easily though.

The women's team barely beat Temple! What is going on?

It's not a shortage of talent so what's that leave - hmmmmm

VNB, we have a few good players. Many have some ability but not the full package. Several are just plain numbnuts in the basketball IQ category.

I love to hear Buzz's comments:

“Our guys are a little bit tired and are a little sick, have the sniffles and stuff like that,” the coach said. “We need to get well and to get our legs back under us.”

I know from your other posts (e.g on Fulmer etc.) your view on complaining about coaching. However, what has Buzz shown us that is an indication that he is the coach we want for the future? Was he worth getting rid of Jerry Green for (even with his inability to control his players)?

Talent relatively speaking. We have the physical ability but not the team/mental. That's why I point to coaching. In the games I've watched under Buzz, I haven't seen any evidence of strong coaching - sets, plays, consistency in intensity, etc. I was at UK when Pitino got there - he took far less physical talent much further. Clearly Bball IQ is part of the equation but coaching can compensate for that just as easily or more easily than it can for physical weaknesses (e.g. size, speed, hops, etc.).

When I compare the athletic abilities of the Vols for the last several years, it's way above where it used to be (during the Houston and next guy (the curser)) Jerry Green got players and actually had them playing better on the court - just didn't do a good job of controlling their attitude.

Not shooting at you, just explaining my view. :good:

They are just having problems shooting the ball if thats hard to believe with Zolman but Brittany Jackson started in place of Ely and did very well! Ely has been struggling shooting the ball this season!
