Tennessee overcame an early five-run deficit to tie the game against Morehead State at 6-6 in the sixth, but the Eagles put together a late rally to soar past the Volunteers, 11-8, on Wednesday evening at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

What is up with this team? It's getting embarrassing.. I hope the football team doesn't underachieve like this.

I know we all expected better, but Florida International are the only bad losses, and that was the first series of the year. 4 of the losses are to current top 50 RPI teams. So far, the schedule has been good.

Let's see what they do in conference play.

I havent given up on this team but I can tell you conference play will be brutal. If I had to say right now this team will not be playing in Hoover.

don't think Hoover is an option, SEC is gonna be brutal, whats the problem, coaching or lack of talent?

Look... Serrano has had plenty of time to get this team AT LEAST competitive and he just has not. I thought the hiring of Serrano was the best hire by UT in 2 decades. Figures. You shouldn't lose to the Fla. Int. and Moorehead State and expect to compete in the SEC. Baseball, Track, Golf, Swimming, etc.... they are all stuck in a suck-rut and it will take some serious FOCUS by the AD to get them back to where they SHOULD BE in the SEC. And that's fighting ever year for CHAMPIONSHIPS!

The problem is that they're forcing themselves to win a lot of games in the toughest conference in the country just to have a good enough record for the post season.

Talent is not the problem, coach serano has been there with 2 different programs but the sec seems to have him beat

Talent is most definitely the problem.

Tennessee's record pre-conference hasn't exactly been sterling over the years.

You may be right. I kept questioning the bunting and aggressive base running. Maybe Serrano knows something about our bats that we don't. He may feel it's our only chance to win, even if it is risky.

By now we should be seeing some return on recruiting. Its early, but it's starting to feel like the same old UT baseball program. Not going to lose faith at this point, but when you lose the games you should win early, the outlook among the fans begins to change. The concern is if it happens to the team. Guess we will find out soon enough.

I think this team will probably finish winning around half their games.

Numerous games being cancelled has created hitting concerns. The bottom of the lineup is not producing. Hall struggling leaves us with no true lead off man, nobody is stepping up hitting wise at 3rd, catcher, nor DH.

You can literally lose to anyone on any night in baseball. I hate that about the sport

Yeah, but when you start to lose to more of the anyones on more of the any nights, it becomes a problem. 7-6 vs the schedule they have played is not indicative of a good team.

The road gets steeper from here.

Exactly. I'd feel a lot better about the rest of the season at 10-3 or 9-4.

The games getting canceled turns into a double whammy, while we do FINALLY have the pitching depth to have a mid week starter, I'm not sure we have the depth for 5 games a week, which of course is due to make up games.

I did not get to see last nights game but the box score and Serrano's post game comments both indicate this loss falls on the pitching, which until last night had been fantastic.

I mean 11 hits and 9 walks and we still lose, that's just nuts.

Tennessee's record pre-conference hasn't exactly been sterling over the years.

We started 12-0 and 15-1 before conference play last year and still couldn't get the tournament. That included a sweep of UNLV, who had a high RPI, and winning 2 of 3 from Arizona State, who had a high RPI. It's not the same every year.

This year will be tough, but if they can go above .500 in conference, I would believe they would have a chance.

Serrano pumping this team before the season began seems to have backfired. Perhaps the team is pressing to meet Serrano's lofty expectations.
