The UT Hockey team defeated #1-ranked Kennesaw State 8-3 last Friday to improve their record to 10-1 on the season, with the lone loss coming to the defending National Champions, Wright State.
The story about the game can be found here.
Tennessee was ranked #3 behind Kennesaw and Georgia Tech in the ACHA regional polls, released once each month.
In the weekly USHSHO.com national computer rankings (the club hockey version of the BCS), Tennessee jumped up to #6 nationally, ahead of notables such as Kennesaw (9th), Georgia Tech (22nd), South Carolina (38th), Clemson (44th), Georgia (46th), MTSU (53rd), Florida (61st), Alabama (65th), and Vanderbilt (70th)
The Ice Vols have the nation's #1 scoring offense with 100 goals on the season, the next closest team is Wright State with 77 goals scored. The UT defense has also been one of the toughest, allowing only 23 goals during the entire season, second fewest among all teams with more than 10 games played.
Five Tennessee players are in the top 15 in national scoring including: Joe Williams (3rd, 32 points); Jon Benner (7th, 25 points); Chris Murphy (tie-11th, 22 points); Scotty Holtzman (tie-11th, 22 points); and Chris Neilson (tie-15th, 21 points).
Tennessee takes on #2 Georgia Tech this weekend at the Towne Center Ice Forum in Atlanta. (10:00pm Friday & Saturday) A pair of wins would more than likely propel Tennessee into the #1 spot in the Official ACHA Rankings for the first time ever. Tennessee and Kennesaw State rematch at the Philips Arena in Atlanta on November 30th immediately following the Atlanta Thrashers/Toronto Maple Leafs NHL game.
