Watching the first half of the Rose Bowl I can't help feeling like I am watching the Vols instead of the Longhorns. I get the sense that Texas' defense is keeping them alive but it cannot last for four quarters.

Huge difference is Vince Young can make plays and we had no one who was always capable of making something happen.

are you watching the same game i am??? Vince Young has been outstanding!!! Our QB"s this year can't compare. No offense to those guys but he has been amazing.

Yes. I made the post at the end of the first "quarter". I should not have said first "half". Second quarter showed a lot but I still get the sense that some big plays are going to happen.

Also, what is up with them refs not giving Texas that second intereception? Is that supposed to be payback for not calling Vince down when he made that lateral for the TD? If that is the rational (one bad call can only be rectified by another bad call) then the problems with NCAA officiating crews run deeper than I thought.

Right now I'd say they gave the Heisman to the wrong guy. Young looked awesome. Took control of the game and pretty much won it singlehandedly. Congrats Horns!

I've been waiting my entire life for this. Vince Young definitely showed his skill. I'm just praying he comes back next year.

Kudos!! Mack Brown is a native Tennessean (Cookville). By the way we have sent Texas some great ones.......Davy Crockett, Sam Houston on and on..

Bush won the Heisman because of the back-to-back titles. I never give a crap about that award. I don't care much about individual awards to begin with, and, how can you compare the performances of players from different positions?

I have class... but thanks for the suggestion. I was the first on this board to offer TN kudos after kicking our ass in basketball.

Did you hear the post-game interviews? Carroll, Leinart and Bush all stated, basically, that they lost the game. None of the three of them gave TX any credit initially.

Granted, in the actual press conference, they gave TX credit so I'll give them that..sort of. As I type, Leinart blames turnovers for the loss.

Yeah, and there were some turnovers (That failed pitch by Reggie Bush, primarily) that greatly helped Texas earn the win. These guys just lost the national championship, give them a pass. They just played their hearts out and lost the game. I've played plenty of football, I can tell you I've had few worse feelings.

And aside from that, I did hear Carroll giving Vince Young and the team props.

turnovers is why they lost. that and Vince Young is just a stud. god i remember two years ago when texas fans wanted nothing to do with them. secondly texas is my second favorite team and i felt no bias from the commentary or from the usc coaches. Really Vince Young was talked about more than reggie bush. 3rdly i only wish ut played like ut. maybe we be in a bowl game right now...

Yeah, and USC got their first and only TD of the 1st half on a fumbled punt. USC also got a pass on an obvious interception right before half. The turnovers and screwups went both ways. To have Leinart say some of the stuff he said about how, "they're the better team" etal., is pansy B.S. Not to mention, all those "mistakes" aside, they had the ball, up 12 w/6 mins left. The mistakes aren't what beat them. Vince Young and a defensive stop did.

I do take back what I said about Carroll. The original post was based on something someone told me. After watching Sportscenter for a few hours, I've heard nothing but compliments from him.

I remember a few years ago when I wanted my "UT" to play like UT... It's all cyclicle. TN will be right back up there sooner rather than later.

The better defense eventually won that game. Think about it. USC had to stop Vince Young. Texas had to stop two heisman trophy winners and their supporting cast. Texas looked to have better athletes overall (not necessarily at skill positions, but everywhere else), and IMO they had the better team.

I agree. I could not believe it when he delivered the ole' "they didn't win, we lost" line. Bush and Carrol were both gracious in defeat. Right now I can see Leinart going #3 in the NFL draft behing Young and Bush.

We will wait and see in the combine. Right now, Leinart is an NFL-ready quarterback. Vince Young is not. He won't be able to take off and run in the league like he does now.

Up until last night I had nothing but respect for Leinart, but after his comments I would say that my image of him is a bit tarnished. I think it is a always pathetic when someone uses excuses and claims that they are still the better team even after they have just been beat. Well as Ric Flair says " You got to be the man to beat the man" or something. The best team wins. When are players going to realize that awards and stats don't always make you a better team, otherwise the Yankees would never lose. So Leinart, all I have to say is Hook'm Horns.

I don't think there was a better team. I think they would still be playing without a definite winner if you let em keep going. Both teams played their hearts out and after a close loss like that you aren't going to be thinking very rationally, so you will say some stupid things to the cameras.
