UT-Martin vs. Memphis

Wow! Tiger high has really fallen off the map since they let West go. I am sure he is somewhere laughing.

I was listening to the Tiger Network (slow night) and UTM hit a FG w/4 seconds left to win the game. Dave Woloshyn's call of the play went like this: "the snap is back, the kick is BLOCKED!!...no, it's away and through the uprights, it's good."

Then trying to save face, he went down to the sideline announcer and asked, "I thought it was blocked, how close was it?" The guy said, "it wasn't close."

A fitting call for a typical Memphis Tiger game. UT-Martin now rules West Tennessee!!

I go to Memphis for grad school and it's hilarious. Everyone is very much apathetic about Memphis football.

People at my work was gonna gonna go see that game. Why would u pay money to see Memphis. They should pay people to go see them

Memphis has no excuses...there are 8-9 states within a few hours driving distance of there for them to recruit from....not being able to put a quality product on the field is weak

True but that comes from the administration and donors. What are they doing to lure kids to their football program? I heard yesterday that FedEx dude (can't remember his name) is waiting until his son graduates to start/complete their indoor practice facility. I'm an outsider; don't know if it's even been started yet or not but that was what I heard. History and tradition has to start somewhere and it's up to the big money to get it rolling.

All this does is show how utterly deplorable a coach Larry Porter was. Memphis will need a good decade to get back to bowl contention with the roster they've currently got.

Memphis is a dead end program. No self respecting coach or recruit will go there, especially when all the fans demand basketball excellence but don't do the same for football.

I honestly believe UT-Martin has out-recruited Memphis over the past four or five years. Better size and more speed...and they've been a middle of the road OVC school at best. Just a total lack of knowledgeable people around that program.

Anyways, the tigers suck. I hate the tigers. Can you imagine what Tennessee Tech and Da'Rick would've done to them?

That game was not as close as the final score. In the 2nd half, UTM had several drives that ended inside the 10 and then the kicker missed 3 FGs of less than 30 yds. Memphis only had one sustained drive in the 2nd half and that was their last drive when I would assume UTM was playing prevent defense.

Also comical to hear the Memphis announcers bragging on the large crowd (39,000) which they were sure would impress the Big East folks.

Comical comment on a Memphis message board (who knew they had one of those?):

"Guys on my HS team at Collierville used to say, well I could go play at UT-Martin but I think I will just quit playing football....and we lost to that team."

There's no arguing that Memphis' program is in the crapper right now, but 40,000 for UT Martin is the best turnout since we played UT about 5 years ago (and I'm sure a good bit of that crowd was wearing Orange). There's obviously a concerted effort to get people to games, which is more than could be said for the Tommy West/Larry Porter eras.

I'm pretty sure attendance exceeded 40,000 when Tennessee played there a couple of years ago.
