UT moves up two spots in power rankings

Kenny Irons goes over 100. The Tigers put up 428 yards. Their defense shuts down Ole Miss QB Brent Schaeffer. And yet the game goes down to the last minute? Basically, Auburn is having trouble finishing drives. If I'm Tommy Tuberville, I'm more concerned by that than I am about the BCS.

What a clutch fourth-quarter performance on Saturday night in Columbia. Trailing 17-14 after three, the Vols scored 17 straight points to put the game away, getting a big punt return and a forced fumble along the way. Tennessee has outscored its last five foes 85-20 in the fourth quarter.

If only that poll mattered.

who would have ever thought "top 5" and TN would have been in the same discussion before the season started?

doesn't mean anything right now i know...but it's so much better than last year....

Pretty nice he has you ranked over the likes of Auburn, Texas, Notre Dame...
just comparing resumes, can't really argue that at all.

the only reason TX keeps getting love is they were highly ranked to begin with, and only lost to OSU.

truth be told, and i do think TX is a good football team, they haven't really done anything all year.

they beat Nebraska. who is a decent team, but not even your older brother's nebraska team.

they beat OK...traditional rival, huge game for both...so i won't take too much away from it...but OK isn't a superpower.

ND hasn't beaten anybody except GT who is pretty good, not great.

Auburn...they beat LSU...and Florida.

For us the Cal game just keeps on looking better and better. and so long as Florida keeps winning, that loss really hadn't hurt us, from an over all perception standpoint anyway. the UGA game doesn't look near as signficant any longer, but we did hang 51 on 'em.

BAma is obviously down, but same rationale applies here as it does with TX and OK, though Bama is not as good as OK, i'll give TX that for sure. USC has gotten a lot of hype cause of spurrier. but that win won't look real good either if they lose 3 of the next four.

these next two games for us define our season. we've had a good year so far, and it will be a good year regardless, but it has a chance of being a GREAT year....wouldn't that be some kind of turnaround? 5-6 to 10-2? or dare i say 11-1 and BCS bowl? whew...i get excited just thinking about it.

Go Vols.

I will not rest until UT is ahead of the Gators in this mythical poll. Doesn't look like I'll be getting much rest.

Honestly, with Florida at Vandy this weekend and you guys playing LSU, and then Florida playing SC while you have Arky, you probably aren't going to get much sleep until the SECCG. And if that goes Florida's way .... Could be a long winter.

But I don't know. I have a sneaking suspicion that the Vandy game is going to be tougher on Florida than most people think. Yes, they don't have Cutler. But right now Florida's offense is so out of wack that a couple of big plays going Vandy's way could make this game closer than expected.

In years past, when I've watched that game, I've noticed that its always very cold and windy and the field just looks sort of washed out. Florida never seems to quite get going at Vandy. Do that this year, with the Florida offense not showing signs it can march down field and score in the 4th quarter to take the lead ....

tell you what - Vandy is, honest to God, not a bad looking football team (certainly not as Vandy teams go), and they may have another monumental upset in the cards for themselves this year. Realistically, I don't think they can beat you guys, but objectively, Florida really needs to be on guard. I see you guys as vulnerable right now, but prob not THAT vulnerable.

Florida has two tough weeks ahead of them....After they its a cakewalk....FSU sucks this year and then who else to they have, Western Carolina? The mighty "Catamounts".....Looks like we're out of luck on the SECCG but I hope not
