103rd in Special Teams?? I know we lost a great punter and our return game was suspect, but does anybody really think we are going to be the 103rd best Special teams unit in the country?

1. Lost an All American Punter who could change a game. Freshman Punter
2. Pathetic Punt Returns and Kick-off Returns
3. PlaceKicker who underwent off season foot surgery with horrible at best back up

Our return game has been very bad for many years. Colquitt's young, but he's obviously talented. Wilhoit has a big leg, but I just hope he's a lot more consistent this year. I think #103 is right on the money. That's close to where our return game has ranked the last couple of years.

You'd think with a team full of so many athletes at RB and WR that we could find a game-breaking return man.

Fulmer doesn't take the return game seriously. Oh he says all the right things but its just lip service

It "sounds" like things are looking better for special teams this year. I certainly hope they end up better than 103, but I can't argue with the ranking.

As important as field possition is to CPF, I can't understand why our special teams is always so bad. I mean, whomever it is that is in charge of that should have had thier head rolled down Neyland Dr. a few years ago. If it's Fulmer, than he needs to HIRE someone to do a better job.

Yeah I agree B-Way.

We need to bring in a special teams coach, not convert a defensive end coach (Caldwell). What about Trooper? Didn't he return kicks at Baylor? He probably has too much on his plate already with recruiting.

Does Frank Beamer have a son or assistant coach that is for hire?

Actually, I've got it . . .

Let's bring back Dale Carter or Willie Gault to coach special teams!

I'd love to see the Super Bowl Shuffle or Carter's "head shake" once again.

On second thought, no I wouldn't . . .

Fulmer turns Special teams over to Grad Assts for the most part

Well NO WONDER.

We actually had a Beamer on staff a few years ago....he must have sucked too. He got burned.........

Oh wait, I don't guess that's very funny is it. :p

C'mon! How many kickers do you know that can hit BOTH uprights in ONE kick?!?!? :D Now that's talent... the kick was good btw. It just wasn't GOOD. :laugh1:

B Colquitt should be great, and from what I hear, the kicking game is going well at practice. In his senior HS season, he averaged over 45 yards per punt, and was a pretty good place-kicker as well. His stat sheet also claims that over 95% of his kickoffs went into the endzone.

He did have some trouble toward the end of high school, but has apparently cleaned up, righted the ship, and now walks the "straight and narrow." I'm looking forward to seeing his foot this season.

Britton was unimpressive in the O&W game, he may have been hungover.

All jokes aside, he could have been having a bad day. I think he's probably straightened out his troubles and will be an above avg punter... don't expect him to be another Dustin though.

Actually Dustin says he's better, so does Craig and Jimmy. I think I'll take their word. He was shakey at the O & W game but in his defense it had been a while since he had any kind of game action, then add to that the HC yelling at you during your punting can throw you off a little.

Britton is not allowed to do any placekicking. Orders from Fulmer, wants him concentrating solely on punting.

Well who was returning punts at the o&w game? cause whoever returned it for a td just made britton look dumb.

It was Inky and he made a bunch of people look dumb on his 2 returns.

Try punting the ball when the HC is yelling at you to change the direction and placement of your kick as the ball is being centered, I bet most punters would get a little flustered.

He's still battling to be the PR, but I think it's Hefney's to lose, because of experience if nothing else.

Saw in a practice highlights tape from Monday that the players getting looks at PR included Hefney, Johnson, Chris Hannon, and freshman D Morely

I sure hope he IS better, but I was just saying he didn't show it in the O&W game.

If he is, then the point of losing AA Dustin is moot. Isn't he a RS?

Britton Greyshirted then Redshirted

rwemyss-Fulmer has said it was his fault that Britton got off a couple of bad punts.

I was VERY impressed with Inky. I couldn't decide if that was terrible coverage or an excellent return... probably a combo of both.

I don't recall Dustin being particularly "great" until his junior year in 2003.

He averaged 43.6 yards a kick his sophomore year, which is good, but I think Britton can duplicate that this year as RS Freshman.

It was a very, very good return. He set his wall up and made the first 2 miss.
