Utah AG may sue BCS

Lame-o, some goofy lawyer researched the hell out of this. Like BPV said we don't need the courts involved. Ridiculous.

He does have a point. Whether he has a legal argument, I don't know.

The BCS is certainly unfair to the smaller conferences, and puts them at a disadvantage from the get-go. And it is damning that a school can go undefeated twice in five years and not get put in the championship game, or get an AP championship. Seems like a stacked deck.

I found this part funny:

However, if a lawsuit is filed against the BCS, Shurtleff could end up suing the state he represents. Utah and Utah State are each members of conferences, the Mountain West and Western Athletic Conference, respectively, that are members of the BCS.

People can moan and complain all they want about weak competition, crappy conference, etc....undefeated 2 of the last 5 years, and a complete whipping of the second best team in the SEC is not something to look over.

I have always said this, head-to-head match up trumps any hypothetical or excuse making. Utah dominated the second best team in the SEC on a less than neutral field. Period. They deserve a portion of the NC, and until we have a playoff, must be considered at worse, the second best team in the nation.

None of that indicates they wouldn't be blown off the field by Florida, Texas, USC, or Oklahoma. They were better than the second best team in the SEC in the worst year for the conference this decade.

Exactly, without a playoff we will never know. All we know for sure now is they are undefeated (for the second time in 5 years) and beat the second best team in the SEC. At worst they are the second best team in the nation, at best they should be considered co-NC.

By your rationale, Texas, USC, and Oklahoma should be ranked higher than them based on pure speculation.

The first bolded part is equivalent to the second bolded part. And the second best team shoudn't be co-NC.

The main argument I hear about Utah is "They don't play anybody" They went to Michigan and beat them. Michigan wasn't a great team in the least but when they scheduled them a few years ago they couldn't have known that. That argument "Play somebody and you get respect" isn't right.

Oregon state is a good scheduled team as well. They did beat USC this year.

I don't personally care if they get the NC or not but the arguments against it aren't fair.

They are in a weak conference. If Utah wants to really make a statement, jump ship and join the PAC-10. Then see how it goes.

This is the most idiotic thing you could say. This is the same as telling Memphis to "play in a tougher conference". Schools like Utah and Memphis would love to play in a BCS conference and enjoy the $$ from TV revenue and Bowl payouts. Thing is, the BCS conferences don't want to split that pie any more than it is already divided.

you act as if Memphis has some kind of business being in a BCS conference. That's funny.

I thought you said Cal liked being in CUSA.
He doesn't have a problem with it, because he can simply load up the nonconference schedule if the league doesn't provide enough competition. Basketball isn't the issue. Memphis sees what getting into a BCS league has done for the South Floridas and Cincinnatis of the world. That's the blueprint they wanted to follow, but the Big East wasn't interested.
