Wtf?

A Utah soccer referee who slipped into a coma after being punched by a teenage player during a game a week ago died Saturday night, police said.

Ricardo Portillo, 46, of Salt Lake City passed away at the hospital, where he was being treated following an assault, Unified police spokesman Justin Hoyal said.

Police have accused a 17-year-old player in a recreational soccer league of punching Portillo after the man called a foul on him and issued him a yellow card.

Wtf is wrong with kids these days, you might disagree with umpires/refs but you still have to respect that they have authority over the game that you're playing.

He was charged with aggravated assault for the time being and is in a juvenile detention facility. The fact that it resulted in death means he should be charged with something more. Even if his intent wasn't to kill the guy, it still did.

I guess that's the risk you take when you go around sucker punching people because you're angry over a meaningless game. Winning accomplishes what exactly? At the end of the day it's entertainment. Nothing to go around punching and or killing people over.

Kids today... bunch of angry, self-entitled, spoiled brats.

People always like to say "kids these days" without giving any thought to who raised said kids.

That being said, this should be an involuntary manslaughter charge.

Well I don't have to give thought to it because I don't have any snotty children. Probably because I don't have children. :)

One of my best friends from high school had two kids by like the age of 20 and is a single mother. She's a nurse at a hospital now. Anyways... she gave her 5 year old an ipod and by the time she was 6, a cell phone. I believe she's 7 now and just told her mom she'd give up all of her toys if she can get a kindle, computer, tv and wi-fi.

I remember 56k dial up and being excited when we got our first computer when I was like 11 or 12 and computers cost like 2 or 3,000 dollars. Maybe 4,000 Idk. I had video games growing up but these kids today are growing up way too fast and you can't even punish them the way you used to. I remember when my dad would raise his hand, I ran because I had experienced the outcome previously. He learned me some manners but now there are laws against stuff like that type of manner learning.

Yeah, this is messed up. Who needs a phone when they're 6?

So you think kids today should be only allowed access to dial up?

I think the bigger issue is discipline.
